White poppies were first produced in 1933 by the Co-operative Women's Guild, made up largely of women who had lost loved ones in World War One. They were worried by the growing militarisation of Remembrance events and what they saw as a detachment between the red poppy and the need to work for peace

Terrible small minded decision from a govt that gets a lot of backing from building interests
Last night, Peers voted against Swift bricks: rejecting a simple, proven way to help one of our fastest declining birds recover. ❌

We share @hannahbournetaylor.bsky.social's disappointment & frustration.

The vote came late, but with government refusing to back it, its fate was already sealed.

This is a good question from Sam Bright. Why does Graham Stringer still have the Labour whip?

He opposes net zero, has backed a far right 'PAC', and - probably of more interest to No 10 - has branded his own Govt 'pathetic'.

He's also backed the Sun's self-serving campaign against gambling tax

3 things Starmer could do instead of camps in old barracks that would actually WORK👇

1. Create safe, regulated routes to apply for asylum in the UK

2. Let asylum seekers WORK & support themselves

3. Fast track status for people from obviously unsafe countries

Tackling the cost of living crisis goes hand in hand with tackling the climate crisis.

We need food security, insulated homes, and cheap renewable energy.
UK food inflation is being driven by climate change-induced extreme weather, driving up price of butter, milk, beef, chocolate & coffee

The price rises in those staples is contributing 40% of overall food inflation

Climate change is hitting peoples' pockets, right now

The war on drugs has failed.
It punishes those with addictions, drives drug sales through the black market and ultimately kills people.

We need to grow up and make what’s so obviously the right decision.
We need to stop criminalising drugs.

Option 1: Stop selling arms to a genocidal regime, impose sanctions, and empower Palestinian self-rule.

Option 2: Wheel out Tony (we can't believe we're writing this) Blair to govern the Gaza strip.

Which one will the government go for do you think?

Great explanation as to why this is another terrible idea from this sh*t show of a govt
Govt claims requiring all adults in Britain to have “digital ID” will “help control borders” and “illegal immigtation”.

That could only be true if police are given powers to require ID, without suspicion of a crime.

A 🧵explaining why:

The disappointments keep on rolling in
A massive dereliction of leadership and duty, if true. A few years ago, Starmer branded Rishi Sunak’s absence from the world’s top #climate conference as a “failure of leadership”. He was right then - he must do the right thing himself now #COP30
Keir Starmer has no plans to attend COP30 climate summit in Brazil
Final decision has yet to be made amid ‘big fight inside government’ over trip by prime minister
