Resistance to the Trump regime needs to ramp up in frequency, intensity, and impact or we all lose. We are seeing mass capitulation on the part of corporations and other institutions nationwide because they haven't seen resistance as a viable threat to the consolidating right-wing dictatorship. 🧵

Don't hold your breath for Republicans in congress to stand up to Trump in any decisive manner. I'd _love_ to be wrong about this, but they're too dependent on him and his connected money to stay in power, and they'd rather do that than have a democracy.
NEW: In a move that ramps up pressure on Senate Republicans, the House is allegedly pushing to pass a new, more aggressive version of the SAVE Act — the GOP’s major voter suppression measure that could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters if enacted — to the Senate.

I picked a hell of a week to visit Europe, and Switzerland, at that.l I’ve spent three days at an international gathering, and, Americans: everybody else is deep into planning a post-US world. We are only worth considering as an opponent. New alliances are being formed. We are being left behind.

This is a hugely significant speech from Canadian PM Carney 🇨🇦, articulation of how to operate as a "middle power" in the new international reality. Worth the read.

Also, contrast the eloquence here with the bizarre ramblings of our mad wannabe king here in the U.S....

it's bizarre to see both CNN and CNBC run with chyrons reporting that Trump said he won't "use force" to take Greenland, when the comments in question were clearly a threat to take Greenland by force. How naive are we at this point?

Big thread but important. We can’t say we didn’t know….
Signs you might be a far right authoritarian party (#2891):
All the pretense is gone. Trump is out right running on an ethnic cleansing platform.

Even European extreme-right parties haven’t gone this far.

The most desperate he gets, the darker he gets. This is going to get extremely scary and extremely ugly.

“It’s worth a reminder that Americans are the ones paying for all of Trump’s tariffs. So our country’s threat to Europe…is ‘give us Greenland or I swear to God, we’re gonna punch ourselves in the balls so hard.’”

We are watching one of the wildest things a nation-state has ever done: A superpower is committing suicide because the GOP Congress is too cowardly to stand up to the Mad King.

This is one of the wildest moments in all of geopolitics ever.

As with any of @hcrichardson.bsky.social's newsletters, the whole thing is worth your time, but this quote alone (see image) was enough to stop me cold for a few seconds. Let it sink in.

Resistance organizations need to prepare for serious action when -- not if -- Trump tries to shut down or rig the 2026 elections. He will not abide by any unfavorable results. We need to be prepared for massive-scale action, like a huge general strike.

The right wing, whose leader called for the execution of members of Congress a couple months ago, is filled with trepidation over “verbal assaults,” also known as yelling at someone.

We need bigger and more creative actions at scale: shopping blackouts, boycotts, a run on banks, a general strike, or other creative strategies. "At scale" is the operative term here as other economic actions so far have had limited effectiveness.

Resistance to scale up to have serious economic impact. The billionaire class and the regime are not responsive to soft power pressure, but they understand money.
The U.S. leadership class has basically abandoned democracy. They are betting that pay-to-play autocratic rule is our future. This is why resistance needs to ramp up to impose economic consequences on those who collaborate with or appease Trump regime.

Where the hell are America’s leaders?
Too many people with formal authority are intimidated by Trump or sucking up to him. That leaves you and me and everyone else without official power to resist his tyranny.

Pew Research Institute (2023):

• Red State Texas has about 2.1 million undocumented immigrants

• Red State Florida has 1.6 M undocumented immigrants

• Blue State Minnesota has 130,000.

And yet only Minnesota is being occupied by masked thugs over "immigration."

It's *not* about immigration.

👇👇 Democrats shouldn’t make the same mistake again.
This isn't a left-right ideological issue. But it blows me away that anyone who is actually anti-Trump would think running back Joe Biden/Merrick Garland 2.0 will work the second time. No political party can tolerate a very large, armed secret police force committed to murdering its voters.

I believe that ICE is actively recruiting people who fit this profile, not in spite of a proclivity for violence, but _because_ of it. Trump is turning ICE into a personal paramilitary force with the primary functioning of enforcing terror and white supremacy.
About the ICE agent who fatally shot a man on New Year’s Eve while off-duty:

A court document "says the ICE agent allegedly whipped his sons with a belt, made homophobic slurs and racist remarks about Black and Latino people and brought a gun to a youth sports game."

Seems like a good time to bring this up again.
Extremely important point. The bile spewing from Miller, Trump, and their supporters make their bloodthirstiness crystal clear. They are desperate to invoke the Insurrection Act and will manufacture a pretext to do so eventually.

What happens next is on them.
