i think online gambling is a cancer that is spreading throughout our society, it was a horrible mistake to de-regulate it, and we desperately need to crack down on it again
i can’t talk about sports gambling anymore without sounding like a crank but i do believe legalized sports gambling is like 15-20% responsible for our current dystopia
The Athletic polled hundreds of players from across the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL about their opinions surrounding how sports betting impacts players — the responses were haunting.

Governments and voters are both reacting to algorithm-shaped “public opinion,” not grounded priorities. Immigration feels urgent because platforms amplify fear, pulling parties into hollow performances of toughness. The far right reads that drift as confirmation it’s winning.
Not everyone is unhappy about the Government's descent into anti-refugee politics

It's *scientific publishing*.

1945 the British made sure that Germanys public broadcasting system would never be taken over by an authoritarian leader again by creating a complicated federal system.
They didn’t see to that at home which has left the BBC vulnerable.
This needs to change now.

We are so far through the looking glass that the man who tried to overthrow an election becomes president, the people who attacked the Capitol are turned into martyrs, & it's the BBC that gets punished - cheered on by the worst news outlets in the UK & the two most dishonest politicians of our age.
It’s not at all clear to me how the BBC can do any kind of serious journalism if its top two bosses can be forced to quit over such an obviously confected scandal. There is no substantive error here. How can the BBC report on Trump, or Farage, or anyone else, in these circumstances?

elon musk ist ein neonazi, der mit der ganzen macht seiner plattform (im politischen wie technischen sinn) einen rassenkrieg in europa und usa entfachen will.
Elon Musk, "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland and Ireland, they've been living their lives quietly. They're like hobbits"

"And so one day, 1,000 people show up in your village of 500 and start raping the kids"

The Volksempfanger (people's radio) was introduced by Dr Goebbels in 1935. The Nazi Party provided every German household with a free radio so that propaganda could be beamed into every home. Now does Musk's ownership of X and Fox News' interest in Tik-Tok make sense?

The president had a MRI but won't say why.

He had bruises on his hands but wouldn't say why.

He just had an 'annual medical' even though he already had his annual medical.

He got shot in the ear but has never released the medical records relating to it.

How is any of this ok?

Comment on the total outage at AWS: Learned nothing in the last 30 years
After the recent AWS outage, multi-cloud is supposedly the answer. But that's misleading – US dependency is the core problem, argues Martin Loschwitz.

To absolutely nobody’s surprise, the more than 2,200 episodes of the Joe Rogan Experience do not link to research items even once.
The team decided to run our algorithm across all available episodes of the Joe Rogan Podcast.

At 2261 eps, 3-4 hours long, this was a big task.

The algorithm detected not a single citation in nearly 7,000 hours of content.

The Altmetric team shed a collective tear.

It had worked flawlessly.

It gets weirder: CNN uploaded the interview with the “plenary authority” comment edited out.
