I like TTRPGs/OSR, miniatures, make and play the video'd games, and am very tired.
I, for one, am choosing to be excited about the Mars news today

It's impressive how much TTRPG Discourse goes like this, "This mechanic sucks in all forms because one time I played a game under a dude who didn't read the rules and was huffing paint, and it went badly. So the only conclusion I can draw is any variation on this mechanic is garbage."

Literally every time the output of an artistic industry dips people are quick to blame the artists, but two seconds of research shows that it was horrible crunch and working conditions all along

I don't have a particularly strong opinion on Shenmue, but I don't think it'd crack my top 10 of most influential games. I can't think of anything in the gaming landscape that exists because of Shenmue

I feel like it's worth noting that every tech CEO talking up AI also said that a Metaverse was an inevitable step in the internet's evolution 3 years ago.

I made a game for #WHEELJAM!
It exists! There isn't a win state! You *can* lose!

Roman Empire? No, I think daily about The Campaign for North Africa, a wargame so stupidly simulationist that a full campaign takes 1500 hours, and there is no confirmed account of anyone finishing it.

I would like to make a video game version some day.

Sometimes you need to play a game like Hypnospace Outlaw to remember that video games don't need to have you running around as a person, and can actually be anything

Remembering when (for Reasons) we chopped the DAC off a rockband mic and spliced it so we could run it through an audio adapter. It produced sound, that's for sure.

Picked up the Call of Cthulhu starter set, and was pleased to discover they point people to @sskorkowsky.bsky.social's CoC review.

#WHEELJAM has forced me to confront that one of my least favorite mechanics in an RPG is not only usable, but extremely versatile, and I don't know how to feel about that.

I keep a small pile of blank character sheets for my favorite TTRPGs around, just in case. You never know when someone needs to do a dungeon crawl this instant

I love painting minis for TTRPGs, but rarely actually use them. This bog skeleton is one of my favorite projects, but has never been on a gaming table

Todays spicy 🌶️ #ttrpg take is that we’ve been telling stories for thousands of year and will continue to tell stories for thousands more.

So stop worrying about being ‘unique’, write the kind of things you like to write & play the kind of games you like to play.

I have a question for #ttrpg vets; I've often heard the objection to XP leveling that players can just go grind boars in the woods, killing the pace of the campaign to level up. Has this happened at your table, and was it a table that otherwise would have been fun to play at?
