#COP30 - is it going to happen?
Will it matter, even?
Have the previous 29 mattered?

I think they did, but of course there is not a "control group" to compare, ie a world where none of the high level negotiations of COP happened.

The first step in dealing with a problem is recognising that there is a problem: more and more people become incapable of working due to health issues.

I'm getting #blackfriday deal advertisement, saying these are "early black friday deals".

It's Monday, people.
I guess I should just lump it in with the "black friday week" oxymoron.

I dunno, why not make it a Black Friday Month, while we're at it?
Or even better, an all-year one?

Even the worst kind of peace is amazing compared to war.

Sounds trivial? Old, overused, boring "wisdom"?

Well, get used to hearing the opposite and finding yourself questioning the merits of peace.

Wars became "weird". Can be hot or cold, secret, or open.
I guess there is not even "simply" a peace and war, but a continuum with all countries somewhere on that continuum, sometimes sliding, sometimes hopping in one or the other direction...

Instead of getting along, finding sensible compromises.

"Correlation is not causation" is a phrase used so often in Academia, it became almost something that you are expected to say and then is usually followed up with a "but we think... ".

It's really just a combination of "mental sloppiness and realpolitik", isn't it?

Have you heard? Musk have been trying to kill off Wikipedia because he says it's biased and now he will launch HIS version, using HIS AI to dream up facts the way he wants them to be dreamt up, not written by biased people.
Because that, of course will not be biased at all...

First of several - climate tipping point reached.
Bye bye coral reefs.

Then - bye bye rain forests
I expect some countries that have heft and will be clubbered will start moving around that time, but of course others will counter

The 3rd tipping point will be messy

The entire UK cabinet's pandemic policy can be summed up in this half-sentence:

"Why are we destroying the economy for people who will die soon anyway"

A public relations fight to convince people they need to die, so that "the economy gets better" instead of implementing basic public health steps.

You cannot rush rest
I don't think you can have the same attitude towards resting and recharging as you do with chores, duties, jobs - to be precise, meet the dealine, "get it done" in spite of curve balls.

I find that the more deliberately and efficiently I try to "get rested" - the less it works.

I'd add, that he only wants to and needs to convince his own supporters that there is already an insurrection in the USA, perpetrated by lefty terrorist democrats and their supporters to take away the rights of Republicans and as such he HAS to (in pure self-defence) take steps to protect the USA.
Everything Trump is doing now is a preamble for his regime's real goal: to invoke the Insurrection Act.

I don’t want to unduly alarm you, but you need to be aware of this imminent danger. Let me explain what’s going on.
