Thinking a lot about how poorly our brains recognize long term subtle changes, like climate change or biodiversity loss. We've lost something like 1 out of every 4 individual birds in the US since 1970, more for some species.

There should be at least 25% more birds around you right now.
Maybe just invest another $1.7bn to benefit Canadians and the rest of the world? Because it’s the right thing to do.

Rather than making this a competition over the few researchers who are able to pick up their families and move to another country.
If this were true, wouldn’t he have done it?
Trump claims that food stamps "puts the country in jeopardy. People that are able-bodied can do a job, they leave their job because they figure they can pick this up, it's easier."

You’re trapped now. Moving away doesn’t help.

in an editorial meeting this morning I got to introduce two people to this, one of my all-time favourites, relevant to infinite subjects in science, writing, and intellectual life
NYC elected a great mayor? Boston just RE-elected a great mayor.
It got drowned out in all the good news from last night, but Boston Mayor Michelle Wu became the youngest person to be reelected in the city's history.

She ran unopposed because her opponent--Patriots owner Bob Kraft's son--withdrew a few months ago after realizing he had no hope of winning.

The progressive candidate, named Geoffrey Epstein, lost the race for mayor of Framingham, MA. That was a bummer. Does that help?

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who in her first term transformed from a progressive leader in local politics into an ascending figure of the national Democratic opposition, officially claimed a second term, the decisive end to a campaign that cemented her dominance in city politics.

Mayor Michelle Wu ran unopposed, presiding unchallenged over Boston politics after a year in which it seemed her true political opposition was President Trump.

Exactly. This trend is not accidental or incidental.
And it needs to be looked at across the board, regardless of education, income, etc. Too many brothers not even making it to retirement age. Loss for families and community.

Probably several causes with systemic racism at the root.

Warren facilitated this discussion last year. A real good guy.

The USDA is the fail safe for SNAP.

They have a contingency fund to ensure it’s covered in the event of a shutdown.

They’re refusing.

Grocery stores stepped up to try and help by offering discounts to any SNAP recipients and the USDA told them they had to stop.

Starvation as a policy choice.

Sorry this has really got under my skin. When threatening mobs turn up in villages they are most often in uniform representing a demented state, such as the Nazi murderers systematically eliminating Jews hundreds at a time in Polish villages and small towns.
Elon Musk, "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland and Ireland, they've been living their lives quietly. They're like hobbits"

"And so one day, 1,000 people show up in your village of 500 and start raping the kids"

"This has now happened, God knows how many times in Britain"

“I can still hardly believe that people who should have remained unremarkable ended up memorialized on lists and monuments,” she wrote. “We were ordinary people plunged into extraordinary circumstances.”

We have so much power, together ❤️✊🏼

Sometimes I feel like only people who grew up in LA should be allowed to professionally review works about LA

Like, I recently read a book “about LA” that was universally praised by New York media, and it was one of the worst books I’ve read in a long time

If President Trump allows SNAP to expire, @boston.gov will be ready to help our neighbors.

If you need assistance during this time of intense and entirely preventable need, go to boston.gov/SNAP or call 311.
