RPGs may have evolved out of wargaming, but its value proposition is that it offers "something more" than wargaming, such as roleplaying and narrative opportunities.
Too much focus on the wargaming aspect forgets what makes RPGs special.

Culture war revisionism over Star Wars is insane. No, the prequels were NOT beloved entries when they came out. The actors for Anakin and Jar-Jar got harassed by deranged fans over their roles. Not only that, people were begging Lucas to sell the franchise b/c they felt it was creatively stagnant.
