This is really concerning. As Scott Shambaugh points out, it doesn't matter if the AI was prompted to write the hit piece or not.
"This is about our systems of reputation, identity, and trust breaking down."

Fascinating research on how often and for what reasons female economists are interrupted while presenting their work. Obviously this has applications outside economics. Nice to see actual hard data backing this up, instead of being gaslit about how it's all in our minds.
Here’s what they found:

Women are interrupted more often than men—by about 10–20% in economics seminars.

Those interruptions are more likely to:
- Cut women off mid-sentence
- Come from men
- Be adversarial rather than clarifying in nature

Seems like tools developed by the people who use them are more likely to take off, especially for platforms that don't expect to have millions of users.

Hear him! and put your creative stuff on your on site outside of social media.
This is where I remind folks once again that my personal site and Whatever, my blog, have been around longer than at least three and probably four generations of social media. Having your own space that only you control is a good thing, especially in an age of resurgent fascism.
Owned by right wing billionaire fascist supporters and/or welcoming to fascists:

Instagram
Facebook
Threads
WhatsApp
TikTok
Substack

Plan your exit strategies if you haven't already.

Australian startup UpScrolled has been attracting users globally over the past few weeks.

It offers an Instagram-meets-TikTok experience but prioritizes authentic connection over algorithms.

It is currently the #2 in the US, #2 in the UK, and #3 in the Australian App Stores.

I'm seeing multiple complaints that the new US TikTok is killing the reach of peaceful protest related videos. Which I guess shouldn't be a surprise.

Either something is broken because they are retraining the algorithm, or it's intentional. Both are bad.

It takes into account video title, description, transcript and info from sampled frames. Plus user demographics, and watch and engagement history.
Teaching Gemini to Speak YouTube: Adapting LLMs for Video Recommendations to 2B+DAU - Devansh Tandon
YouTube recommendations drive the majority of video watch time for billions of daily users. Traditionally powered by large embedding models (LEMs), we're undertaking a fundamental shift: rebuilding our recommendation stack using foundation models like Gemini.
