Just got the news that Tremane Wood will not die via execution because he was associated with a murder as a teenager. Rare that OK shows any clemency.

My teammate Sierra Scott wrote an incredible story about Tremane, his evolution. This humanization is crucial to justice

One of my favorite baseball stories.

In the heart of the Civil Rights movement, with baseball only modestly integrated, and years before Stonewall, Bob Gibbons and Bob Uecker hold hands during the team photo. I love seeing their joy, knowing how taboo it is.

Gibson’s competitiveness with the St. Louis Cardinals is often celebrated. But he also had a sense of humor that deserves its own publicity.

This piece resonates. Folks want Badges of Honor to be the Band-Aid, to heal the grief when something—your job, the class you teach—is ripped away from you with pain. But honor isn't enough, not when the attacks pile up as they have every day.

Give this a read.
My latest.

I've been quiet recently, I know.

A lot of people have said that getting fired from the Washington Post is a "badge of honor".

It's....complicated.

Excellent piece from @alexvitale.bsky.social.

Public safety will play a crucial role in quality of life, and Mamdani is up against an NYPD team of 86 PR flacks, with a rote story that only the police can keep people safe.

We know that's not true.

For the remarkable number of folks in excellent law firms, corporate suites, non-legal academia who still aren't really sure "where we are" country-wise, I'm just not sure how much clearer he can be. Countries in which opponents of the government can "never obtain power" are not democracies.
Trump: "They're gonna make DC a state and they're gonna make Puerto Rico a state. So now they pick up two states, four senators. They're gonna pick up electoral votes. It's gonna be a very, very bad situation. Now, if we do what I'm saying, they'll most likely never obtain power."

We couldn't ask for a fairer, more deeply reported story.

It's not easy to read this, knowing the plans we had won't take shape. But personally I'm really proud of what we did for 30 years and how I was able to be part of the solution for the last 7.

I will keep fighting, keep building.
Reps for a dozen nonprofits that lost federal funding to do community violence intervention work—due to Trump's DOJ cancelling their grants—say they've had to cut staff & programs, which will undermine public safety.
