I'm excited to be leading a workshop on Cavendish Space this evening, which I created with @stimpunks.org

Cavendish Space isn’t about “fixing” people.
Through campfires, watering holes, and caves, we learn that wellbeing is relational, sensory, and collective.

Today is #Women&GirlsinScienceDay we would lay money on many of the forgotten women who contributed to scientific progress throughout history having been autistic
#Women&GirlsinScienceDay Academic & particle physicist Anne Kernan was a huge advocate for women in science, on one occasion funding a trip to CERN for an undergrad she had never met, meeting her at the airport and paying for her accommodation until funding came through. www.dib.ie/biography/ke...

Late diagnosis for Black autistic women often means years of being mislabeled: “difficult,” “dramatic,” “lazy,” or “too sensitive.” When racism and ableism overlap, our needs are dismissed as character flaws 👌🏽

This. The over-functioning that is often expected of women, with the added layer of sprinting to keep up that society forces on black women.
By the time many Black autistic women are diagnosed, we’re already burnt out careers stalled, bodies exhausted, confidence shaken. Early intervention was never offered, then we’re blamed for struggling without it
February 10, 2026 at 5:14 PM
Absolutely this. And because society rewards it, over functioning is often not considered to be harmful, especially among women.
Patterns of long-term overfunctioning are frequently noted in late-identified autistic adults.

For months, people have asked me about the popular Telepathy Tapes podcast, and its premise of non-speaking autistics reading minds. And I’m here to tell you: The Telepathy Tapes is a hot, complicated mess—but not for the reasons you may think. At TPGA:

I had to check the date on this article because it could’ve been written 10 years ago. Explanations of gender discrepancies in identification have been around for some time. And yet, lots of parents of girls & female clients seek us out doubting other services will recognise they are autistic
www.bmj.com/content/392/... Autistic girls & women: By age 20, they were diagnosing pretty much equal numbers of men & women.
Huge study, whole population of Sweden born 1985-2020.

Not 1 in 4.
Not 1 in 3.
Equal numbers, just about.
