willing to share 30+ yrs of opinions on prenatal genetics and lab logistics. Also will share anything else that catches my eye.
Oh, wait, my bad. Under a different question, it says they've partnered with SteadyMD to offer GC sessions, currently for 99USD for a one hour session. www.steadymd.com/clinician-wo...

The founders include a number of people who should have been down this ethical road about embryo testing before. Also the FAQ under GC services doesn't even mention GCs, and 23andME is old news. NOT a good start, guys.... #GeneChat mynucleus.com/about

Cross-posting for awareness since not all are on reddit. The issues the lawsuit raises are serious and repeat concerns others have raised and thought poorly addressed by GC leadership #GeneChat www.reddit.com/r/GeneticCou...

Interesting bit on the unexpected alliances and outcomes that the current IVF/embryo laws lead to. Whether embryos are legally treated as property, people or sui generis, there are still unresolved ethical issues that conflict with the business and side of IVF...and the needed fetal research side
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

Are embryos people or property? A number of legal cases around IVF and its ramifications paint a messy picture that “should spur us to grapple with the current inconsistencies in our laws and ethics,” Anna Louie Sussman writes in a new series from Times Opinion.
Opinion | Are Embryos Property or People? Even the Courts Don’t Know.
These clusters of cells are increasingly at the center of legal disputes, resulting in piecemeal decisions that have far-reaching consequences.

This is a bigger issue than people realize. Not just jobs lost. But their families losing benefits. Landlords losing tenants. Cities and towns losing revenue. This is how recessions start

Ready Fire Aim is no way to govern.
More accurate, fewer words;

"There are plenty of contractors going under".

A friend furloughed 75% of staff (furlough w/paying for health insurance for three months), 50% exec pay cut, 25% rest of staff to keep as many people w/salary.

PS: Wasn't 18F a government office, not a contractor.

Nice list of where/how to access/stockpile various mifepristone related meds, links to groups and links worth following within those linked sites, especially if you're stockpiling and distributing personally. And there's a great recipe for gingerbread cake at the end. substack.com/home/post/p-...

Congrats to Judge Reyes and the team that did the genetics prep! #GeneChat
Judge Reyes just became my favorite person.

And I hope I showed this respect to all my colleagues. The complexity of the reports and talks they gave in their non-native language was fantastic. www.nature.com/articles/d41... Biologist Tatsuya Amano works to make science a fairer place for non-fluent speakers.
Given I'm essentially monolingual, I completely admire the multilingual people trying to get American English to make sense.

Below is a good script for calling (202-224-3121) or emailing your DC rep/senator (www.usa.gov/elected-offi...). When possible, personalize the message: these are not recoverable actions for me, my family, my patients, my agency. I guess you could leave praise for them if you're that kind of person

If you’re in an institution doing any kind of DEI work, the most important thing to do right now is simply call it something else. Change it to “Community Outreach” & then keep on doing the same important work. When they outlaw Community Outreach rebrand it as “Strategic Partnerships,” rinse/repeat.

Take a minute and check out this wonderful thread by GC Jehannine Austin on psychiatric conditions and genetic counseling. She offers links and vids near the end for those who want more info.
Ok I’m coffee’d up & ready to go!

First, thanks @nicolecrust.bsky.social for organizing Fear and Anxiety week here on @bsky.app (… feels … timely?? 😬🫨) and @samcooper.bsky.social for yesterday!

As Nicole said, I’m a professor, psychiatric genetic counselor, AND a I live with anxiety/depression. 🧵

It's Day 3 of Fear and Anxiety week here on Bsky (Day 2, ⤵️).

Today we'll hear from @j9austin.bsky.social, a psychiatric genetic counselor, prof, and individual with lived experience.

Dr. Austin uses a powerful "Jam Jar" metaphor to explain the susceptibly of us all to mental health conditions.

Both Bezos and Musk have started Montesorri-type STEM schools in Texas for ages 3-9. Surely unrelated to Abbott's insistence on state funding for private schools. Bezos currently charges no tuition for those under 400% of the poverty level, subject to change as all tuition is.
Jeff Bezos opening more tuition-free Bezos Academy preschools in Texas. Here's where
According to USA TODAY, Bezos Academy preschools are free and open to families who make less than 400 percent of the federal poverty line.

Worth at least skimming the comments/requotes for how insurers game the 2013 ACA, optimize metrics and costs to their favor, and buy up healthcare systems. Insurance is not the same as healthcare and neither are the same as access!
It’s time to realize that the number of insured people is not the right metric for the following reasons :

The kids are now back in their cities but the memories are in my house as I wash the blankets we wrapped up in to argue the best Dr Who and empty the dregs of wine from the Beyonce & Taylor night and evaluate the leftovers from dinner time stories. Gratitude and love and the best of hopes for 2025!
