That game everyone keeps recommending to you is free today. Alternately funny and sad, it's the best world building I've ever experienced. No fast reflexes required, just an elaborate branching storyline with great dialogue.

In this sci-fi book Neal Stephenson has twice described the rotating habitats on this space ship as passing by "at about the speed of a second hand on a clock" which is such a funny description because it FEELS like you understand even though the characters are on the perimeter of the structure.

It's unsafe to use my radiators because boxes of stuff I've packed for the move are pushed up against them. But it's cold in my apartment so I turn on the oven. Now the appliance I use as a clock says 400

I'm hungry what time is it?
400
There's no sun, what time is it?
400
It is always 400 here now

Sometimes the pharmacy texts to say they auto-filled my prescription. Other times they send me a reminder that I need to log in and trigger a refill. This is the second time I've failed to read carefully before driving to the pharmacy.

This 2019 article I found in a stack of newspapers is cracking me up because it's like "Marijuana legalization was a billionaire conspiracy led by George Soros [positive affect]"

Top 10 things I enjoy about living in the future:
10. Literacy
9. Internet was fun at first
8. Recording media so I can be nostalgic for the past
7. Get places by flying through the sky
6. Have a car I drive other places
5. 💊 that fixes problem
4. 💊 for fun
3. 👓
2. Always have food
1. Hot Shower
for all the bitchin and moanin about the future not arriving fast enough I sure am glad to live far enough into it that I have all the clean hot water I want just coming out of the wall and I don’t have to give even a single thought to where it came from, how it got clean, or where it goes after

I'm moving furniture around and discovered this discrete charging block, still plugged in. I started charging things at my desk instead of leaving them on top of the bookshelf and then forgot I'd ever done this.

My review of the Lomography Konstruktor as a DIY kit is, idk "two stars" ig? C+?
It's one of those products that's 90% of the way to greatness but has enough little problems I can't really endorse it.
If there weren't youtube videos of the assembly I would have been unsure how to proceed sometimes.

This is true, I'd recommend the book to anyone.
I think a lot of people see the title and expect Seeing Like A State to be right/libertarian but it's actually about high modernism destroying indigenous ways of knowing.
i enjoyed reading this, although I usually prefer the word “interpretable” vs “legible” when I talk about this stuff.

also seeing like a state is a book literally everyone should read
