This Townsend's warbler is making himself right at home in my bougainvillea. Do you think birds named after 19th century naturalists are like, 'you don't own me!'?

It would be like me pulling up the first rainbow trout anyone had laid eyes on and declaring it Haddad's trout.

A Black-capped Chickadee puffed up into a ball. This round shape can look very fierce and formidable to other birds.

Steller's Jay on a moss covered big leaf maple branch in the last few seconds of this morning's diffused light before the sun broke through the clouds.

Peak PNW!

Reason #1113 why I L💙VE Steller's Jays.

(they were hiding their suet nuggets, their Thanksgiving treat!)

Good Morning my Friends

It's time for today's #BirdOfTheDay theme which is #Gannets, interpret it how you see it (bonus for actual Gannets).

And the Alternative is #BlueTits (Birds Not Humans).

Here's Northern Gannets and a GC Grebe juvenile with Fish

Just a few of the literal thousands of Sandhill Cranes flying into roost at the Haenhle reserve in Michigan, west of Ann Arbor. I love their dinosaur sounding calls.

He may be a #HolidayRobin but he seems to have found something else while ferreting around our front garden this week. Can those be Daffodils pushing through the soil by our little friend. Maybe Spring is around the corner.

American coots (Fulica americana) have white outer undertail coverts, but usually they're inconspicuous. The coots display them when signaling, so maybe this one was trying to tell me something. Photo taken at the Rio Grande in Albuquerque on November 28, 2025.

I’ve been laid up in bed all day with a thrown-out back, and miss seeing Merp through the downstairs window. Here’s Merp from a couple of days ago. I would very much appreciate a back as strong as Merp’s. #birds
