I was at the back of the room at a gig in Manchester & some lad - who said he was with the band on stage - asked me if I was an A&R man for a record label. I said I wasn’t. He didn’t believe me. He offered me a pint. I accepted, whilst continuing to assert I didn’t work in the music industry.

This, from @aloner.bsky.social - one of my editors at Prospect - is typically preceptive and thought-provoking.

She really is an excellent follow.

Reminder that years ago it was found out that the FBI straight up made up a whole bunch of fake forensic sciences, plural. People have gone to jail and been executed due to literally pseudoscience.

Hair forensics, for instance, is totally nonsense.

They admitted it.

Never seen this before. Amazing.

Someone needs to play this in ad breaks on Fox News.
I'm once again politely asking Bluesky developers to allow us to attach multiple photos and videos in one post.

When people like Miller say “Third World” they mean non-white.
Dean Martin, born Dino Paul Crocetti, son of Italian immigrant Gaetano Crocetti

Frank Sinatra, son of Italian immigrants Antonino Sinatra and Natalina Garavanta

Merry Christmas to everyone except Stephen Miller and his enablers and handlers

At my left-footed 8-year-old’s football training, in the kick about before it starts.

Me, to the coach, after spooning a shot with my left foot: “I don’t have Luc’s left foot!”

Coach: “To be fair you don’t have his right foot either…”

What's an insult you'll never forget?

My Christmas dinner earlier today. So much work. So much leftovers.

My brother and his two friends were camels. I guess a teacher got the hump with them.
Primary teacher here: If your kid is dressed as a donkey in the nativity, it's on purpose; they are an ass in the classroom. Equally, with angels - angelic for the majority of time. Wrote in a special cactus part one year for an odious little prick.

My friend @doctorchungie.bsky.social refused to believe that chillies were not native to Korea, such is their cultural importance.
“what was Italian food like without tomatoes?” “what was [any cold European country] peasant food like before potatoes?” old hat. but south/southeast Asian food before chili peppers?!

How did we end up with a tradition where as parents we go to great expense and effort only to give all the credit to a bearded pagan demigod?

When writing in his gospel in The Bible “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds”, I don’t think James had criminal court trials in mind.

It it turns out it’s literally impossible for a customer or a restaurant to phone Just Eat. If their driver doesn’t show up you have to accept they’ll charge you for food which hasn’t been delivered. You can’t even do live chat. You either wait when the time keeps moving on, or cancel and pay. 🤬

I think most of this was already reported by Computer Weekly earlier this year, but here's more from whistleblowers on One Login.

I think the big change here is from students living in halls of residence, where there were bars, facilities and opportunities to meet many other people, to flats as the predominant model of student living accommodation, where they may only interact with 5 or 6 others. Almost half highlight design.
