@world-of-telly.bsky.social Long drive down the M6 today - very much enjoyed several eps of your podcast, especially Moonbase 3, which I remember watching, aged 7, with my parents on Sundays in 1973. Pretty sure there was a feature on Blue Peter about the programme's SFX, possibly with Matt Irvine?

Recently, I have used various LLMs as a Google search substitute because they're easier to query and the answers are presented in a seemingly coherent manner. But last week, when asking a simple question: "can I travel between these two London train stations using contactless payment?" (cont)

Very sad to hear about Dave Ball’s death. 35 years ago this was in heavy rotation at our house: Floatation, The Grid

This is Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron and considered to be the first person to write a computer programme which was for Babbage's Analytical Machine. She died in 1842
In her honour, today is Ada Lovelace Day and is all about encouraging women and girls in mathematics, science and engineering.

I’m not sure why whatever benighted algorithm it was served this up to me today (perhaps image searches for weird creature references?) - do people actually wear these things? Is it even real?

It's the 30th anniversary of Hackers - the mighty @princecharlescinema.com screens the movie on Thursday 18th Sept, with an in-person intro by director Iain Softley. 35mm sold out, but still tix for the digital screening. My first feature film VFX job!

Christopher Nolan’s INTERSTELLAR orbits back to the PCC from Fri 19th Sep on 70mm. Few films demand the grandeur of celluloid quite like this one: a sweeping voyage across galaxies, black holes, and the limits of human endurance.

So I was turned on to the smart Apple TV series Murderbot by my friend David Dastmalchian, who's in it, and found it to be a bright spot in current sci-fi programming. It's very clever and unique and well worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Long day at the Vfx coal face. Winding down with TNG’s The Measure of a Man and a glass of wine. What an episode - @melindas.bsky.social wrote a truly brilliant script and the cast knocked it out of the park and into orbit. Pretty soon this is going to be reality.

The London A to Z. Before the internet/smartphones *everyone* carried one with them. Mine would slowly disintegrate in the bottom of my bag, requiring an annual replacement.
What’s a real thing from your childhood that kids these days would find completely foreign?

Like, how we used to be able to walk right up to the gate to meet our family coming off a flight.

Or how we had to pick a spot to meet at the theater BEFORE we went.
