Over the past three decades, an energy system that utilises sunlight and wind power has gone from being an aspiration, to a reality, to an unstoppable economic force

This shows that a net zero economy isn't just a possibility, but a positive vision for the future we must pursue
Our Energy Transition Programme Manager @patrickgeddis.bsky.social has just published a piece on our blog on the progress made since the UK switched off coal a year ago, and you can read it here:

Community energy allows local people to produce, consume and own energy where they live, together.

It is incredibly positive to see community energy continue to feature so prominently in the delivery of the Clean Power Mission.
🚨 BREAKING: Communities run through the just-announced Strategic Priorities for Great British Energy.

This Government is delivering on its commitment to roll out clean, green, community-owned energy. 🌱

My mum texts me when I stand up to speak in Parliament. She tells me to fix my tie or sort my hair out. A mum’s job is never done!

And when I talk about growing up in poverty, she says sorry. Like so many others, my mum lives with guilt, but the fault lies with the politics that failed us.

Last night, LCEF and the Co-operative Party launched our new report, Power in Our Communities, with Energy Secretary Ed Miliband MP. 🌱

The report showcases how we can give local people a real stake in our clean energy future—while also building lasting climate consensus within our communities.

Investment like this is extremely welcome

As well as cutting bills and accelerating net zero, it enables local communities to control their own power supply and to use this resource to invest in their neighbourhoods

Our clean power mission is being driven by working people in every part of the UK.

We’re putting workers at the heart of Britain’s energy future - to cut carbon, create jobs, and drive bills down for good.

Today is a really positive demonstration of how key energy security is to the UK and wider world

Starmer, Von der Leyen and Miliband all stressed the importance of clean energy in a changed world, where volatile fossil fuels have threatened national security and family finances
Today at 15:45 CEST, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen & Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the UK will deliver keynote remarks at our Summit on the Future of Energy Security in London.

The announcement on steel is a common sense decision that allows for the state to take decisive action in a nationally significant sector, securing the steel industry in the face of rapidly changing global trading norms

Has flown under the radar with other stories, but this is really positive

Requiring energy efficiency improvements in social and private rentals will tangibly improve millions of lives

High growth economies always utilise abundant energy resources

The Carbon Budget published today by the Climate Change Committee shows that, with proper intervention now, the UK can produce more, use more and waste less energy, all reducing emissions

This is really good, and why devolved government is so effective

This initiative has the potential to allow London government to effectively roll out home retrofit, which cuts bills, cuts emissions and creates decent, local employment

🗣 Recent research from E3G has shown we can reach the 2030 clean power target without biomass subsidies - providing pause for thought on any upcoming decision for subsidising Drax, the single biggest emitter of carbon dioxide in the UK.
January 23, 2025 at 4:14 PM
The Drax power station is one of the problems that has become imbedded in the British state

Under the last Government, it was widely accepted that this problem needed to be solved - as we move towards Clean Power 2030 it now absolutely has to be
The UK imports millions of tonnes of wood from overseas to burn for electricity each year & has cost billpayers billions to subsidise.

Ahead of a decision on whether to extend subsidies, I write on the political risks of subsidising biomass for Labour.

www.politicshome.com/thehouse/art...
Sticking with Drax could undermine net zero. Labour must be brave
The decision on whether to end Drax's energy subsidies is not an easy one, but the Government must face up to the tough choices that the Tories dod...
