We will always remember them

Today we honour all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We remember them now and always.

Peckham shows the power of difference.

We thrive because of our diversity, not in spite of it.

That’s true across Britain - and we must stand united against the hate and division that try to tear our communities apart.

Brilliant news that @lucympowell.bsky.social
got on to the ballot for the Labour Deputy Leadership race. I’m backing her because she will be a strong voice for progressive change that can unite our movement.
My statement on the publication of the final PLP nominations:

Delighted to bring young people from Peckham to meet the Policing Minister Diana Johnson- making sure their voices are heard at the heart of Government as we work to make our streets safer and build stronger bridges between police and community.

Homicides at a 10-year low.

Not thanks to the loud, divisive noise online- but because real Londoners are putting in the work: the London Violence Reduction Unit, youth club workers & mentors backing young people.

The impact speaks for itself.
The summer is traditionally a very challenging time of year with young people more at risk of exploitation and violence.

Through London’s Violence Reduction Unit and the Met Police, we’ve been working incredibly hard with partners across the capital to provide support and help.

What have Labour done?

Scroll your phone and you’ll see a London of fear and decline.

Walk its streets and you’ll find a city where difference is a strength and communities look out for one another.

The reality will outlast the fiction.

This is a really welcome step.

After years of cuts, investment in young people is starting to return.

Some kids in Peckham are spending their summer climbing back over school fences — just to use a pitch. The only space left is the place they should be having a break from.

We need youth clubs that are open, local and funded.

My Young Futures campaign is about just that 🧵

That win showed the power of coming together - different backgrounds, one team, one goal.

Girls in Peckham saw people like them on that pitch. We need to make sure they’ve got the pitches, the kit, the coaching.

Talent is everywhere - and so should opportunity be.

It’s hard to put into words what the spirit of Peckham feels like- but Russell Newell’s photos do just that.

Raw, tender, political.

The fabric of a community stitched through light, shadow, friendship and fight.

There’s nothing more powerful than a young person discovering what they love.

This summer, Holiday Hope is giving thousands across London the space to create, move, express themselves, and just be kids.

Promise made. Promise delivered ✅

16 and 17-year-olds will be able to vote in the next general election 🎉

They work, pay tax, shoulder real responsibility—now they have power at the ballot box.

A long-overdue step to strengthen and modernise our democracy.

This is vulnerable, powerful and deeply human - how we talk about poverty shapes how we fight it.
My mum texts me when I stand up to speak in Parliament. She tells me to fix my tie or sort my hair out. A mum’s job is never done!

And when I talk about growing up in poverty, she says sorry. Like so many others, my mum lives with guilt, but the fault lies with the politics that failed us.

Tired of cold, draughty homes draining your hard-earned wages?

Labour’s Warm Homes Plan will upgrade millions of the homes that need it most- cutting bills and keeping families warm 🧵
July 16, 2025 at 9:05 AM
The expansion of the Warm Home Discount will mean three million more families will receive support for their energy bills at a time that we know people desperately need it.
July 15, 2025 at 2:47 PM
Under the Conservatives, the energy crisis pushed families to the brink.

So no, we won’t take lectures from them now.

Tackling youth violence and creating opportunity must start with communities.

Brilliant to have Janet Daby in Peckham to see the award-winning #MyEnds programme- backed by the Mayor’s Violence Reduction Unit.

From sports to mentoring, it shows what’s possible when we invest in our young people 💥

We’re driving down bills, breathing life into our communities with cleaner air, and securing our energy for the long term- so people feel the change today and future generations can thrive.

That’s the country we are building.
July 15, 2025 at 10:23 AM
Clinging to fossil fuels is like bailing water from a sinking ship.

Delay, denial or distraction from clean power is to fail our children.

Most Brits back it- because it cuts bills and puts Britain back on the world stage as climate leaders. Let’s get moving.
