Great to visit the West Midlands this week. Thank you to Mayor Richard Parker for your leadership and ambition for your area. And to Bhai Mohinder for welcoming me to your Gurdwara. Inspiring to see the amazing work that the Nishkam Centre is doing for the community in Handsworth.

Brilliant to celebrate 25 years of the Greater London Authority with @london.gov.uk @londonassembly.bsky.social. Huge progress made in driving change for Londoners in that time. Thank you to everyone who has played their part.👏🏾👏🏾

Great energy at @coopparty.party.coop #CoopConf25 as we celebrate the brilliant work of our Community Britain campaign. Loved the conversation about Grassroots Growth and how we deliver change that people can see and feel in their lives through community power and cooperation.

Today we honour all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We remember them now and always.

Delighted to bring young people from Peckham to meet the Policing Minister Diana Johnson- making sure their voices are heard at the heart of Government as we work to make our streets safer and build stronger bridges between police and community.

What have Labour done?
August 14, 2025 at 8:33 AM
The energy, people, ideas and leadership are already here - young people are showing us that every day.

Our job is to back them with the spaces, support and trust they deserve.

In our session with the Southwark Youth Parliament, the focus was clear: safety, youth poverty, mental health, access to opportunity. They weren’t just naming problems - they were offering ideas. What’s missing is the resource and trust to act on them.

We also visited St Giles Trust in Camberwell - a charity supporting young people affected by violence, poverty and county lines. Their peer-led model, and work with the VRU, shows what’s possible when support is rooted in lived experience and real trust.

Through Elevated Minds, sixth-formers from St Thomas the Apostle College joined us in Parliament.
They spoke about the gap between how young people are perceived and how they actually live. About policing, identity, mental health and where they feel they belong.

At the Damilola Taylor Youth Centre, Janet Daby, Minister for Children and Families, saw the MyEnds programme in action: boxing, football, mentoring - all youth-led. The centre is trusted and full every week. But demand is outpacing capacity.

This summer I’ve been out across the community - at youth centres, in Parliament, and in roundtables - hearing directly from young people.

The Young Futures Summer Series is our way of listening, learning, and starting to build something better with them.

Some kids in Peckham are spending their summer climbing back over school fences — just to use a pitch. The only space left is the place they should be having a break from.

We need youth clubs that are open, local and funded.

My Young Futures campaign is about just that 🧵

That win showed the power of coming together - different backgrounds, one team, one goal.

Girls in Peckham saw people like them on that pitch. We need to make sure they’ve got the pitches, the kit, the coaching.

Talent is everywhere - and so should opportunity be.

It’s hard to put into words what the spirit of Peckham feels like- but Russell Newell’s photos do just that.

Raw, tender, political.

The fabric of a community stitched through light, shadow, friendship and fight.

There’s nothing more powerful than a young person discovering what they love.

This summer, Holiday Hope is giving thousands across London the space to create, move, express themselves, and just be kids.

Cold homes are political. Warm homes are a choice.

Labour is choosing to act - and we’re just getting started.
July 16, 2025 at 9:05 AM
This is about fairness. No one should dread the cold nights drawing in or have to choose between heating and eating. Everyone deserves a warm, secure home they can afford to live in.

In Maltby, Rotherham, families are already saving up to £400 a year after energy-efficiency upgrades. It’s not just good policy- it’s life-changing. And this is just the beginning.

In Wakefield, 5,000+ households will get free home upgrades- from solar panels to insulation. It’s part of a £70m programme led by the West Yorkshire Mayor and backed by the government. That’s Labour in power, delivering.
