New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

Ok. They’ve pissed me off.

I’m back to tell you 3 things about ID cards:

1. Migrants ALREADY HAVE biometric ID cards & govts have been trying to digitise them for years w repeated fuckups & failures causing complete chaos - they don’t work, you do not want that system for you.

Farage has now said very clearly he will remove judges he does not approve of and abolish UK citizens' human rights. No-one at the BBC, Sky or ITV - or inside the government - seems to think it is worth highlighting. This is exactly what sleepwalking towards autocracy looks like.

I think Labour’s problem is that, as power has shifted to technocrats over recent decades, its ambitions have shrunk to chasing populist policies shaped by an algorithmically skewed version of public opinion, one amplified by rage-bait rather than grounded in reality.

The University of Warwick has paid a lot of money, I'm guessing, for their internet banner ads on the Guardian and elsewhere.

But they can't spell "curiosity". This isn't a US-UK variant. They just, genuinely, have a massive spelling error in their banner ads.

The Crown in the constitution of the UK.

Theoretically indefensible; (currently) practically useful.
King Charles has done his sleight of hand - the date for Trump’s State Visit has now been set for September 17-19.

Parliament won’t be sitting so there’s no question of Trump addressing it, however much his ego demands. And Charles will be in residence in Windsor not Buck Pal. No London trip.

This morning in 1916 after days of monumental artillery bombardment on the Somme, British and allied troops were going over the top.
Well over 100,000 men attacked.
It would be the bloodiest day in the history of the British army.
