Mostly I wanted to get this name before anyone else could. Expect pictures and stories of my cats, thoughts on movies, and who knows what. Can be found at https://letterboxd.com/PatienceZero/. Currently setting up a cat sitting business.
Can I suggest you follow @neorsd.org ? The world is complex. We rely on the functioning of invisible men and women who make our lives work. We know this in NE Ohio, in the Midwest, because we talk to our cashiers, to our drivers, to our friends. The people who touch your lives are friends.

Grammar and horror: in The Shining Jack Torrance’s use of the double spacing to start a new sentence was quickly falling out of style. And yet, it was so ubiquitous that the practice was adhered to for decades despite Word and other software disincentivizing it. One space is now better.

October 2nd, 2025. “Something’s always about to happen.” There was a movie about the indecipherable nature of language and its inherent violence, long before you heard the terms QANON or incel. Language doubles back on itself, becomes unknown, becomes too known.

It’s October, I’m hitting the gas. I have a couple projects that may or may not hit some sort of algorithm. I’ts a Decades of Horror marathon, at least 3 films per decade from the 1920s to the 2020s on #Letterboxd, and a YouTube of a scene from an underrated, underseen, or overlooked film.

You know how when you buy a lottery ticket it’s not just the (unlikely) chance that you’ll win but the time you get to spend imagining the first few things you’d do if you DID win? It’s like that.

I have, I'm afraid, waded into the latest round of "state of music criticism" discourse. (Please consider subscribing to the newsletter, it's free!) tinyurl.com/46bzzwte
The Real Reason Music Critics Got Nicer
Hint: It's related to how music criticism also got better

I had three great experience in movie theaters three days in a row — none of them at the sort of blockbusters more and more people tell me are the only things they pay to see on the big screen anymore. So here is a piece about what theaters add to movies besides sheer size.
Movie Theaters Are Not Just For Blockbusters
The big screen can add things to smaller movies too.

Many crickets outside my home but only one currently sounds like the E-E-E-E-E-E-E guitar lick during the chorus of RATM’s “Down Rodeo”.

There is a part of me who was taken to a screening of As Good As It Gets at 11 who is ecstatic about the combo of Rental Family, Jay Kelly, and Ella McKay this fall.

Watching Twin Peaks: The Return has led me to question the economics of musical touring. You’re telling me this town of 50k people (circa 1990) can get Nine Inch Nails to play at a dive bar? I’m seeing them in Cleveland in a few weeks and that’s a miracle predicated on their start.

I find it odd that any celebrity, politician, author, or otherwise notable figure finds it within their purview to deign to social media access. I’ll let Kathleen Madigan explain it from a Catholic perspective -

It’s probably outside the top 50 most important things about Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me but it has to be said. Laura Palmer was really uneducated on the effects of the vacuum of space regarding the velocity of a body and what kind of temperature it would be.

I’m gradually making my way through Twin Peaks finally and as someone with a half deaf director at work it is indescribable how much I relate to Cooper communicating with Gordon Cole.

Tis a birthday and I checked FB. Wonderful messages but what is the internet now!? I’m a millenial who didn’t get MySpace. I stopped at forums and didn’t update.

A friend whose name I don’t know is going through it. And they have a Margot Tenenbaum. We all do. Mine exists. And I’m happy, I have my not Margot. But Margot Tenenbaum exists, somewhere, a different world than this where Margot was with me.
