Mostly I wanted to get this name before anyone else could. Expect pictures and stories of my cats, thoughts on movies, and who knows what. Can be found at https://letterboxd.com/PatienceZero/. Currently setting up a cat sitting business.
For many years my nightly ritual was Calcudoku. Here’s a link - www.calcudoku.org. And in all those years whenever I explain or show it to someone, with a single exception, I get a look that says “you’re insane”. I developed a crazed method of tackling the higher levels of these that is just that.

Played it for the wife this time, to which we exclaimed “this is Midwestern” (in the best way).

Not to be confused with the citrus rind spice blend known as Tom Holland’s Zest.

I have an unwritten MA thesis from 2017-2019 about zombie fictions and pandemics and what those entail that I have wanted to revisit every day since. It was too unwieldy at the time and never completed.

I have to say they’re all on equal, vaunted ground for me but the Road to Damascus moments in this were sublime. The movie is culturally Catholic (complimentary).

I gave a call to listen in. I definitely wish to do something similar when we have a similar break in the coming Christmas season. We live in a place that values community ties and I couldn’t be prouder of that. We need that, we need that sense that we are live in the world together.

As someone providing public service in Summit County I’m tempted to leave a reassuring message of hope. But I also know I cannot handle our sheer number of phone calls, radio messages, and emails. God speed you good person!

Oof, that’s a good call but I want the rhyming scheme…..

I was an incredibly awkward kid. In middle school I made an effort to observe people, and the Simpsons staff said the same. Writing center pedagogy emphasizes this. You listen in order to teach. You observe in order to instruct. I cannot begin to say how invaluable this is as a skill.

Total rando, excuse me for being so. My wife and I came up through writing center training at universities and have long considered how that pedagogy could be put into consultancy. It’s all “soft” skills. The very things I remember hearing Simpsons writers say they imposed on themselves as kids.

I was very happy to learn about this 10 years ago this fall because for an assigned paper about film one of my students decided to cover It’s A Wonderful Life and justify its greatness and one unexpected element to me was the technical achievement.

Real answer: One Battle After Another.

Personal, very specific choice: the first 10ish minutes of Questlove’s Ladies and Gentlemen…50 Years of SNL Music, a masterful and virtuosic mashup of a half century of live performances.

Planning a big watch of many directors next year and wanting to literally dump a giant box of physical discs in a box and tell the wife “just choose movies that seem interesting to you” to watch after work. Sounds like a great plan!

Such a fun movie when you clock all of the assassin’s references as dumb pop culture and pop psychology. All of his aliases are sitcom characters; he talks about his 10,000 hours from Gladwell; his nutritional analysis of McDonald’s is Freakonomics. All feeding into that final eye tick.

My wife got this absolutely perfect moment that fits perfectly three years ago. The old girl in the background is no longer with us but I’m sure she’s haunting happily!

“It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone.“

You know, that’s fair. I wasn’t considering it from the more narrow angle of photojournalism. Although there’s an awesome idea for an analysis of Peter’s actions as a historical trend of photo manipulation within the field.
October 20, 2025 at 3:23 AM
I think it’s different in so far as Peter is providing photos but has zero control over the way they are used, how they are captioned, or what the articles accompanying them say. There is a small unethical element as he chooses the framing of the literal shot but very little beyond that.

Years ago a friend was adamant we should watch this in her basement with theater seating and at one point a character says “I want my baby back”. I then whispered “ribs” and have never made that friend laugh harder. I remember nothing else about the movie.
