That feeling when you get there in good time for the first train at 10.50

And then find it was 10.30 and you've missed it by 4 minutes 🤦

Still there is lovely cafe at Alstom Station so there are upside while you wait!

I absolutely didn't visit just to get the other side to be complete @signaloftheday.bsky.social

(but it may have been one of the reasons 😂)

It's been a few years but today the Actions finally made it back to the GCR for a days rail riding.

This station has a special place in my heart as my earliest memory of visiting a heritage railway with Senior Gricer. I was both thrilled and then terrified when a safety valve lifted next to us!

A trip on this remarkable train is still a special treat to myself. £200 for an en suite club room is a great deal.

Get the Highland Sleeper up, explore some of the Scottish rail routes during the day, get the Lowland Sleeper home.
Caledonian Sleeper have an offer on for Autumn/Winter on their Highlands routes: www.sleeper.scot/200/. Might be the time to try out the sleeper!

Our future home at the Tanat Valley Light Railway will be open for Heritage Open Days from 12th-21st September. Why not pop down there to see the work they have been doing recently?

BlueSky hive mind! Looking for recommendations for a web store for the Class 507 website. No fancy stuff needed, just add to cart, calculate postage costs, and link up to payment provider such as PayPal. Looking for something simple to set up and maintain, low cost, ideally open source.

I really hate the term "sideloading". I preferred the original term, which was "installing software on a computer that you own"

Hi authors! Please remember to file a claim!
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

Every tech update now is like: "Great news, the word processor you've relied on for twenty years has learned to juggle! Is it good at it? No! Does it help in any way? Of course not! Has it made it insufferable to use? Oh, absolutely."

Built in 1979 by Telford Development Corporation for Telford Town Park, the 4wVB steam tram was named ‘Thomas’ in 1980 by Rev. W. Awdry; however, the line fell out of use due to a legal dispute. https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2025/08/telford-town-tramway-re-opening.html

Found I had a couple of "shorts" style clips of Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway

Normally I don't like vertical video and the sound is mostly the noise in the coach, but I think they capture some of the essence of the line.

Are you ready to RACE THE TRAIN?

Team TR75 are - made up of volunteers, they've been working hard so they can try and beat the trains they're usually crewing! Best of luck to all those running tomorrow.

Two trains with a direct link across two centuries: Locomotion was built by Robert Stephenson & Co in 1825. The firm later became part of English Electric and then GEC.Through a merger in 1989, GEC-Alsthom was created. It went on to build our original class 373 (TMST) eurostar trains.

handy example of why rail maintenance and upgrades in the UK are a particular nightmare: sometimes you're trying to do a modest track improvement and it's suddenly complicated when it turns out there's a ~200-year-old rope vault underneath it
