Fluencing one transport system at a time.

(Currently here, the old place and the pachyderm place all under the same handle)
Very cool. I had similar lab techs who let me experiment with historical photo development solutions back in the day even if some components were a bit shall we say a bit spicy.

I only once worked with HF acid though, scary stuff needing much respect.

How cool! Was it a hobby or professional?

Likely a capacitor in the power supply, when they fail they can burst (at least the larger electrolytic ones)

ALSTON Station 🤦

Darn phone keyboards, I miss my proper Blackberry one.

Probably while we were chasing A4s at Alresford and Ropley then!

Did you manage to see Sir Nigel Gresley over on the other half?

Well, actually, the most disturbing thing is silence so the usual technique is to grab a section of background noise and use that - so you were not wrong.

6990 “Witherslack Hall” with a very authoritative departure from Rothley towards Leicester, what a lovely sound 🤓

D123 Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry looking absolutely resplendent today, a credit to the paintwork and preparation 🤓

If you fancy playing with separation then have you tried recording from the MS capsule raw and mixing down to LR in the mix? This ability is one reason why MS is so popular as you can tweak later...

When I'm performance recording I have the H6 central to the stage with the MS capsule and then two boundary mics on the wings - tend to route the MS to the centre channel of the 5.1 mix and the boundaries to the LR. I have a RODE short shotgun at the rear of the room that I mix to surround.

Though, word to the wise, if you have stereo mics physically separate you have a lot more issues with unwanted phase effects. It's why the two classic techniques are XY or MS (as the H6 does) as those get both capsules as physically co-located as possible.

Both good choices, I have the slightly older RODE 3.5mm and while.its not a miracle worker it's much better at helping the tablet livestream.

I do a lot of XLR work with the H6 though and also the mic module is common connection between H6/H5.

If you're looking for a direct replacement I'd go H5

Much appreciated 🙏

In case I need it for mine any tricks to getting the shell off with minimal snapped clips or spudger marks?
September 18, 2025 at 8:19 AM
So far mine seems to be holding up, but will keep an eye on it.

I've had to do it for a whole load of AKG wireless mics and a pair of Nikon binos - soft touch plastic is horrible.

WD40 like spray is my go to, coupled with scrap cloth or jay cloth to really scrape off the crud

To be fair I'm way beyond geeky but I always called that a 6v lantern battery, I never knew the official series number...

Normally I enjoy those small world moments but today it is more somber as I recognise the person I've spoken to on several visits to the museum.

As well as to David's family my condolences to all his colleagues at the railway too.
