Delighted to see my first article for Bon Appétit is live! All about maple in Quebec City kitchens – which I am now craving as I spend time with family in Ontario. #QuebecCity

The story that got killed was for a podcast and I would LOVE to do more deep-dive food history stories in that medium or for magazines—just putting that out there for any editors or producers who might possibly want to chat.

I’m home with my mom, waiting for her chemo to start. We’re watching classic movies to pass time: Big Business, Baby Boom, Mr Mom, Three Men and a Baby. I need more suggestions tho…

She’s wanting things to be light and fun.

I’m working on a story focused the use of maple in Quebec City restaurants (food, cocktails, beer). I’m including a mix of traditional foods and modern cuisine.

Do you have a favourite maple dining experience in Quebec City?

Today I sat down with Webster, a tour guide, rapper, lecturer, author and independent historian to talk about his Black history walking tour here in Quebec City. Did you know Black history here is almost 400 years old, dating back to 1629, when the first enslaved person, an 8 year old boy, arrived.

Wow. Great given its almost high season, but the strike was like 6 months long. I hope they can bounce back.

DYK: The house with the red roof is the oldest surviving house in Québec City (1690). Today it’s home to Restaurant Aux Anciens Canadiens (1966), but from 1870 to 1920 it was home to the first Black-owned barbershop – run by brothers James & John Williams, Québecers of Jamaican and Irish descent.

Happy to share that I’m part of the new Québec Chapter for the Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC). I’m in the role of President, which is both exciting and terrifying.

I find them soothing for some strange reason. I could watch Nate the Hoof Guy for hours. lol
I've been confounded by the millions of people who've started watching hoof surgery videos, so I had @saramurphyphd.bsky.social explore the obsession. It's soothing and repulsive in equal measure!

I turn 50 in 5 months, so I’m planning a solo road trip in Labrador and Québec (and maybe Western Newfoundland).

I popped up to the roof this morning. I’ve lived in Old Quebec for 8 years now, 5 at my current address, and I never tire of this view. I love hearing the noon canon, and the church bells on Sundays. Spring means my windows are almost always open, and I wake up to the chirping of birds. #QuebecCite

IDK, sometimes when I’m doing a 7-course tasting menu for $95, I don’t want to pay $80 for a wine pairing too. I’m sure a couple glasses of white wine will be fine. Let’s see how this goes.

Any guesses on what the final bill will be?

I’m happy to share that I am now working in travel trade in Quebec City; planning and facilitating group tours throughout the province (and Ontario). I’m excited to work in both trade and media, promoting Canadian destinations and experiences.

I’m heading up to Saguenay on assignment in the morning and planned my route to take me past my favourite pâtisserie for croissants. I’m so excited, I don’t think I can sleep tonight.

It is wild to me that some stores no longer accept calls from customers and that the calls are routed through a call centre (which refuses to connect you to the store). I just wanted to confirm that a specific store has a battery in stock for my Macbook Pro and get a rough estimate of cost.

I’m flying to Toronto on Friday and spending three weeks with my family just north of the city. It’s been a minute. Anything new/exciting I should venture into the city for?

Given that there’s a pause on FDA comms right now, it may be useful for Americans to sign up for Canadian recalls, since many products are sold in both countries. Eg fellow celiacs, this may clue you into products to watch out for on the US side too: recalls-rappels.canada.ca/en/subscribe

They are working from the Nazi playbook.

There is an end to this that we've seen before and we need to start talking about it right now.

I’ve loved Instagram since day one, but man, Meta is making things challenging. What’s the alternative? Where do I try to move my audience?

I’m not ready to go, but i think I need a plan.
