Our GDGT Cookbook paper is out now in Biogeosciences! @egubg.bsky.social

Thx Peter Bijl and @kasiasliwinska.bsky.social in spearheading on this. Hope it will help people who study #TEX86 for a bit!

Proudly present Figs 1 and 4 that I made for the paper 😎

Great pleasure working with y'all!

This fellowship was a huge part of the reason I am continuing to do climate science, and it has supported so many incredible people. These effects on early-career researchers, who do some of the most impactful work, is going to have long-lasting implications for science and scientists.
As of today, all current NOAA Climate and Global Change postdoctoral fellows have been furloughed due to the Dept of Commerce not releasing the funding for the program. In addition no new Fellows were awarded this year. cpaess.ucar.edu/cgc

The Dept of Commerce has forced the NOAA C&GC program (which supported my postdoc) to furlough their postdocs. Postdocs are at a precarious career stage - folks move across the country/world, often w/o much of a local support network

I was also a Fellow. This program brought me from my home country of Australia, providing me resources+networks that paved my career path to becoming a full professor in a US institution. Having now worked with many undergrad/grad/postdocs, I have witnessed CGC benefits to society at large.

One of the things that makes this Fellowship special is that unlike NSF fellowships it is open to non-citizens, with the aim of retaining climate science talent in the US. The furlough creates significant problems for non-US postdocs in how it complicates visa status 😳

I am one of the people who have been furloughed. And just to deal and prepare our backup plans for this unfortunate event is mentally taxing.

I hope that we are getting out of this series of unfortunate events soon.
The Secretary of Commerce's new policy requiring his personal review of all NOAA contracts over $100,000 is directly harming American science. 🧪

How do I know? Because this morning, twelve of America's rising leaders in climate science (including myself) were furloughed.

With each passing day, this administration further degrades U.S. scientific capabilities. If we stop collecting climate data, it will not alter reality. It will make us less prepared to address the damage & pain human-induced, climate change generates. This does not make us great. 🧪🔌💡🌊 ☀️💨🔋

For example, removing links and references on the page to 'Climate Ready Nation' initiatives. Stripes are gone too.
