Looking up at thin-trunked naked winter trees from my hiking trail. The gray, black and brown trees look like they are reaching up gracefully towards the cloudy light blue sky. Moss and ferns are growing on the tree trunks here are there.

A dirt trail with greenery on both sides is in the bottom third of the photo and winds through a foggy forest of tall evergreen trees. The lower two thirds of the trees have few limbs and no foliage. All foliage is dark green and is in the top crowns of the trees. And the perspective is looking up at those crowns. Blue sky can be seen peeking through the fog at the top.

After our Iceland trip this emerged as one of my favourites. We were on our way out to the aircraft wreck but as a rain cloud swept in over the lava fields I thought it would provide some asymmetry to this otherwise symmetrical mountain. It was just a case of waiting for the right moment.
