Calling (Black) people pointing out that Bonaly faced anti-Black racism and was penalized by both the judges and audiences for doing a back flip and has never received an apology for what is now something that is rewarded “fake news” is a choice

My cousin was a Black figure skater in that era and
Surya Bonaly is a multi Olympian, world medalist, euros champion, and French national champion, and did it all during a time when #figureskating wasn’t exactly the friendliest to its skaters of color.

But sure, let’s reduce her to fake news about her doing a (really awesome) one footed backflip.

This always gets posited as a moral or cognitive issue, but it's not students who have changed; it's everything else.

Did kids in your day have a book, newspaper, or letter that they could somehow read in the dark? Were they beholden to people who expected to be able to reach them in seconds? No.

Georgia Fort, Don Lemon, Jamael Lundy, and Trahern Crews.

All Black. All doing their jobs.

in exchange for asking them nicely to try and not wear masks anymore, the democrats agree to fund ICE while they build concentration camps.

"shut the entire government down" is not a radical position. it is the bare minimum.
BIG news from @bloomberg.com, which confirms that ICE has gone ahead and *purchased* multiple commercial warehouses with the aim of converting them into mass detention camps.

This is likely to be the big detention story of 2026 — literal warehousing of people.

Plans for such centers and jails in nearly two dozen communities have sparked protests over suitability, proximity to homes and schools.

Wil Stancil is.. I’m just tired of the fact that being unkind , untrustworthy, a bully and abusive isn’t enough

He’s been this way for years .

He was peeped IMMEDIATELY by how he interacted with Black people

He got fast tracked and now he’s being an absolute disaster

That would certainly be an improvement, but how can anyone support this bill in earnest without recognizing that Qualified Immunity is antithetical to rule of law, and no police should have it anywhere?
Good to see --> Reps Eric Swalwell and Dan Goldman just introduced their bill stripping ICE agents of qualified immunity. We broke the news that this was coming on our podcast (see thread below for more info and context).

you can’t fucking dox a public official!
Tillis says he opposes ICE being barred from wearing masks: "I've seen people dox me. I've seen people take pictures and identify law enforcement officers and then put their families at risk. So, I think that's a step too far."

One thing I see liberal outlets giving ground on that I feel the need to correct: it’s impossible to “dox” a paid public official
By simply reporting their name, institutional role, and political affiliations

When you help make it so the only names people know are Pretti and Good, you reinforce the culture that says these things aren't "bad enough" until white people get involved. This has been going on for a whole year. Many non-white people have died in this same way trying to protect their neighbors.

I started learning Alex Pretti's name and how good he was on the *same day* he was killed. This country only mobilizes like this for white people. And as long as that stays true, then we aren't actually changing anything about what's happening. It'll happen again.

What I'm talking about, and what non-white people have been talking about for a very long time, is how it's only when white people start getting hurt or dying that people start to be characterized as "heroes" and "martyrs".

This is why I object to the framing of "good person who didn't deserve to be shot in the street" because it positions the problem as who was shot not that the shooting happened at all. ICE has shot almost 100 people since 2015, and even if we only count fatalities 31 people have died from shootings
The killings of Renee Good & Alex Pretti show Trump's DHS culture is rotten to its core.

Trump, Vance, Noem, & Miller have made these agents feel immune from the consequences of their actions.

That must change. Everyone involved in these operations must be held accountable.

ICE and CBP agents have been caught repeatedly in all manner of crimes against immigrants. And yet somehow now when the victims are white they're out of control. They were always out of control. They were always predatory and abusive. I hope this is a tipping point. But I fear it is not.

Because ICE isn't acting like the SS or stormtroopers now. They are acting like American police forces have always acted. The only difference is that they are doing it to more people in public that aren't Black. The cameras are catching the behavior of jump out squads and task forces in new areas

You could actually structure your moral code around the idea that law enforcement doesn't exist to execute people. You don't have to create perfect victim narratives, you can just refuse to accept that the state gets to kill people.
