It's not a Roman fucking salute bc there's no clear evidence that any Roman ever did it. It's a Nazi salute, invented--like the Nazi movement--by modern Europeans fantasizing a glorious past that never was.
No matter "how often you think about the Roman Empire", identifying a #RomanSalute is even more awkward, considering there's no ancient source clearly describing it.

There's *one* ambigous depiction of an outstretched arm on Trajan's column, there's *one* vague passage in Josephus. That's it. 🤷‍♂️

Technofeudalism is a concept for people who don't understand either feudalism or capitalism.
Technofeudalism is a bullshit concept.

Marc Bloch revolutionized the way we study history, not just the Middle Ages, though that was his specialty. In WWII he joined the resistance & was eventually captured, tortured & executed by the Gestapo. Entry into the Pantheon means that he will deservedly rest among the greatest heroes of France

I saw the trailer for The Return recently, and was fairly impressed. The set designers might have looked at a megaron. But I did see one blatant anachronism in the realm of textiles in the trailer that irks me, and because I’m that kind of nerd, I'm going to talk about it.* 🧵

O CAVALO DE BOLSONARO [Jun/19]
November 15, 2024 at 4:11 PM

“The selection of Gaetz just rips the mask off. With it, Trump is trolling not just his defeated opponents but many of his craven establishment supporters. It’s like Caligula trying to make his horse a consul.” ~Michelle Goldberg www.nytimes.com/2024/11/14/o...

Trump’s choice to lead the Justice Department is a flagrant provocation that is, like a pulpy B movie, so bad it’s good.
