Hey Albo how's that "compassionate" government who have "provided support" going?

"One woman, who works for Treasury, told a welfare group she was embarrassed to rely on weekly food donations after her husband and father of her children died and she found herself unable to pay the rent."
Full-time workers hit by 'worst ever' housing crisis
Even workers in full-time jobs struggle to meet rental costs, charities say, while those with less income are going without essentials.

Old enough to remember today; any Aussie on their high horse about American offshore renditions should hang their heads in shame. we were the inspiration!

In Goldstein this election. Won't be spoiling my ballot.

It's not some grand moral stand or anything. I just really hate Tim Wilson for his stint as Human Rights Commissioner.

Just a reminder that Dutton covered up child abuse while he was Immigration Minister.

This isn't a major ALP talking point because Tony Burke is likely also implicated in the scandal

Exclusive: The largest cache of documents to be leaked from within Australia’s asylum seeker detention regime details assaults, sexual assaults and self-harm

Journalists have been burned alive inside tents from bombs dropped by Israel. The footage of this is horrendous – and yet we are watching human beings live this every. single. day and our leaders and media do nothing.
BREAKING: Israel bombed a tent sheltering journalists at Nasser Medical Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza.

Footage shows the tents engulfed in flames — with a journalist trapped inside, burned alive.

Your wellbeing is completely irrelevant to the people who have the ability to actually influence parliamentary politics.

Politics in Australia is largely different elements of capital fighting over the spoils and it's been this way since before Australia was a country.

Change purse election
So this is it: a choice between a few dollars a week in tax cuts or a couple of cents off petrol for a year, an election fought in a change purse by two men with the charisma of loose coins.

The fact that the ALP's central policy going into the federal election is a $268 tax cut is extremely funny.

They've learnt absolutely nothing.

Speaking at this tonight with the anti-poverty crew—I have been given the enviable task of reading Scott Morrison's mind and interpreting his vision for the world 🤪
5 years ago Scott Morrison announced some Centrelink payments would be increased by $275 a week, bringing JobSeeker to the poverty line.

Join us tonight to reflect on why he did it, and what it meant. events.humanitix.com/covid-supple...
5 years on: What did the COVID supplement mean for welfare recipients, then and now
Join us to mark the 5th anniversary of the government proving Centrelink payments can be lifted to the poverty line.

There's not really much to say about the Federal Election beyond things are going to get worse.

I, like a lot of people said on the last election night a hung parliament was inevitable because the small minded technocratic liberalism of the ALP would fail.

The thing about Trump taking over/ dismantling the administrative state is that it's the systems equivalent of cancer attacking vital organs.

Things like the education system and security apparatuses are designed to stabilise and protect the system not undermine it.

One thing I hope the archives will be useful for is writing histories of structural adjustment in Zambia.

Zambia's labour movement fought to remove the one-party state in 1991 and then were incredulous when they new government they had supported turned on them.

The ABC article shows why the NSN are so insidious. Not just grooming at-risk young men but luring & entrapping women as young as 15 for the sole purpose of breeding. The dangers of groups like the NSN go beyond harassment & intimidation of minorities. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...
Emily recognised her son on the news. He was standing with a group of Neo-Nazis
These families never imagined their loved ones would be drawn to Neo-Nazi groups. Now they're fighting to get them back and begging the government to help.

Got a win at work today.

2 years ago I convinced my manager to switch our area's milk supplier to a social enterprise, Fruit2Work that mitigates some of the damage our "justice" system causes.

Apparently that snowball kept rolling and the whole Uni officially switched across today.

It would be nice to see mainstream media acknowledge that every alarmist in their ranks about Trump and his henchmen has been correct, and every single "Let's all calm down" guy--a posture of blasé detachment that is consistently over-rewarded in legacy media--has called it wrong from day one.

I used to be a social democrat. I think most social democrats are good people who try their best.

Social democracy is not an ideology equipped to fight fascism.

I wish it was different. It simply doesn't understand incentive structures and power.
One can never know. The call to resist never came. The law-abiding traditions of the Social Democrats compelled them to put a ban on any armed resistance to an act … sanctioned by the head of state and the legally constituted government, backed by the armed forces and not opposed by the police.
