Friends. If you live or work in DC, and you encounter an unhoused person give them some kindness. A few bucks, a metro card, and ask them if you can call the shelter hotline for them. 202-399-7093.

STATEMENT : "Let us be clear: Donald Trump's approach to homelessness does nothing to address the sky-high cost of rent, which remains the main cause of homelessness. Instead, his reckless actions are cruel and backward and will force even more people to sleep outside”
Today, instead of using their power to help people pay rent, access healthcare, or lower the cost of groceries, Trump doubled down on backwards polices that will force 170,000 people-who are currently stably housed- back into homelessness.

This is what Americans outside DC don’t realize-we now live under constant surveillance and threat and tension.
Soldiers with guns everywhere you walk.
Fear every time you see tow trucks bec it means ICE is about to kidnap someone.
Starting to film every time you see >1 cop car gathered.

It seems to me a great many of DC’s elected officials and government employees are so concerned about not losing Home Rule that they’d happily give up our autonomy to keep it. #FreeDC

Trump's militarization of DC is not about safety.

It's about suppressing Black leadership, stopping Black progress & criminalizing Black & brown youth.

If Republicans actually cared about safety, they'd invest in prevention, mental health, & community-based supports that keep people safe. #FreeDC

One famous TV person went on air and said we should kill homeless people.

Another reported the news.

Can you guess which one got fired?

Please consider taking this action. The new funding guidelines threaten existing programs and practices and require compliance to other directives unrelated to homelessness/housing (immigration, LGBTQ+, etc.) as a means to obtaining funding, also known as blackmail.

The belief that poverty and homelessness are about "individual choices" didn't arise on its own. It was manufactured through decades of messaging designed to protect the policies and interests that create mass precarity.

As this new poll shows, that propaganda campaign has been wildly successful.
Most US adults think individual choices keep people in poverty, new AP-NORC/Harris poll finds
A new AP-NORC poll finds that most U.S. adults think personal choices are a major driver of poverty and homelessness, while fewer blame a lack of government support.

We should not be arresting our unhoused neighbors. What we're witnessing on our streets is cruel, counterproductive, and unacceptable.

Federal agents should not be patrolling our streets, terrifying our residents, and taking people away. The federal surge needs to end.

Happy Labor Day!

If you’re unhoused and you have a hoarding disorder, the government confiscates your property under the guise of public health and safety.

Can we not use the same reasoning to confiscate the property of the extreme hoarders of wealth?

I’d like to point out that for the amount of $ Americans spent on legalized gambling in 2024, we could house every last homeless person in the country at market rate for multiple years. Homelessness is not just a political failure, but a societal failure. #priorities.
