Do people even understand what the Fed does? Former Fed chair Janet Yellen says most probably don’t… but the parts of the economy the fed impacts have a huge impact on our lives. Latest episode of Everbody’s Business from @bloomberg.com #economy #yellen #federalreserve #inflation #interestrates

Some perspective: The S&P opened down -1.3% on Trump's Greenland saber-rattling. That's $750 billion of wealth destroyed -- roughly equal to estimates of the value of Greenland.

And so ~in dollar terms~ his shenanigans have already cost the US one Greenland, and we've got nothing to show for it.

Truth. It's not good enough being the most materially wealthy society in the history of the planet...
Just as a matter of interest, in what way has globalisation failed the U.S. and the West? Until the relatively recent lunacy, the west and US were prosperous, successful, healthy…
US trade secretary Howard Lutnick really not mincing his words here at Davos: "We are here to make a v clear point: globalisation has failed the West and the USA. It's a failed policy. It's what the WEF has stood for, which is, export, offshore, find the cheapest labour in the world."

This kind of comment is what you get when people only pay attention to one conversation at a time.
liberals using the term "free world" to talk about white countries, and bemoaning how we are seen by white countries (when Black and Brown countries have always seen us as evil genocidal colonizers) is all I can see here.

even when liberals should be right, they manage to get it so so wrong.

A fascinating thread because of the distinctions every participant declines to make and the philosophical presuppositions they refuse to make explicit.

Social media is so badly designed for getting to truth.

I hate to agree with this. But I agree with this. Politics is about perceptions, and Talarico speaks Texas clearly enough to change minds.

That’s no knock on Crockett. Texans are basically superstitious fundamentalist rubes who believe the Alamo was a moral stand by whites. It’s not HER fault.

You can love, respect and admire Jasmine Crockett, and still conclude that THIS guy is a better fit for TX.

Because he is.

Period.

TX hates women. Don’t ask them to go against type in such a key election.
You can’t quote “I have a dream” on MLK Day then legislate against that dream every other day of the year.

There are people who could stop this if they wanted to stop this craziness. There are constitutional ways to address a president who is running amuck. Those who could get him out of office don't seem to choose that. This is what keeps me awake nights.

This isn’t immigration policy. It’s a business model.

ICE keeps growing, not because it makes America safer, but because corporations are raking in billions off cages, bodies, and suffering. ICE’s existence is a massive revenue stream.

Okay, new rule: when posting cool things like this you have to say what city you're posting from. I don't make the rules.

Well, okay, I just made that one.
A sign of things to come? 👀

Are we finally moving away from calling our light rail “Link Light Rail” (a total mouthful) and toward Link… or just the train once interlining starts?

New signage is giving me hope as we approach — gasp — two connected train lines later this year.
