Whiteness in the US is super-contingent, says the guy with the last name "Scalzi." And it doesn't even matter if you have, like, lots of English and Dutch and Scottish people in your ancestry, says the guy with the last name of "Scalzi."
Sometimes, "whiteness" is not so easy to define. From where I sit in Europe, if someone shows me a photo of a guy from Spain, I would not say "that's a person of colour."
But someone sitting in the US may very well come to the opposite conclusion.
