Look at the difference between NorCal and SoCal.
In the Bay, out of the 11 Senators repping urban areas, 8 voted yes.
In LA County, out of 13 Senators only 4 voted yes.

Don't build luxury housing, just turn existing affordable housing into luxury housing and deport the working and middle class who live in it to Nevada: this is the California status quo.
Senator Durazo: "affordable housing solutions and the rights of tenants are top priority for me. The concern is that it would open the door for more market rate at the expense of affordable housing. I am aligned with nonprofit groups who are concerned that this would lead to more market rate."

This Tuesday, LA County Commission will vote on a clusterf*ck resolution to speed the rebuilding of firetraps -- while exempting "fire impacted communities" from virtually all state housing laws for the next 5 years.

This proposal is truly galling from Horvath, who campaigned as being pro-housing. It not just paves a path to build back worse and entrench every mistake in past CA housing policy, but also limit the ability of rebuilding homeowners to reduce their costs, like with a SB9 duplex
basically every state housing law: the HAA, the Housing Element Law, the Density Bonus Law, the commercial-corridors upzoning laws, the parking-reductions-near-transit law, the 5-hearing limit & objective-standards definition of SB 330, and more.

While not discussing the wildfires, this is what rebuilding could look like. Upzoning around stations surrounded by single family zoning like Westwood/Rancho Park on the E Line is a climate-focused solution.

To add to this, Caruso was THE HEAD OF THE WATER BOARD and never said word 1 about storing more water in the Palisades in case of emergency, until the houses he bought for his kids were affected.
I think it also should be mentioned that the person who really got this going was Rick Caruso, the West Coast Trump/developer who Bass kicked the ass of in the election, and who falsely spread conspiracy theories about fire hydrants in the same radio interview.
Not going to stick up for Bass because this is the job, but we’re all in our feelings right now and going after a mayor in a weak-mayor city over a countywide disaster is cope. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/09/u...
