cracked in a good cause
There’s a fairly obvious solution to this that none of the hand wringers are very interested in talking about.
Every state apart from Tas is pulling their weight with hospital expenditure. The Feds not wanting to pay for the additional demand on hospitals that the FEDS CREATE from underfunding their primary health, NDIS and aged care system responsibilities is pathetic bullshit www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11...
'Beyond belief': PM tells states to spend less on hospitals
Health ministers are furious with a letter from the prime minister demanding they rein in spending if they want a public hospital funding deal honoured.

Another victim of the global credit card tap on scam.
A slow moving scandal in Canberra at the moment is that we launched a new public transport ticketing system which is *so bad* and unreliable that we no longer have any idea how many people are using transit or how.

3,000 passengers a day lmao. Projected cost US$12.4 billion. Diabolical
Congrats to Honolulu Skyline—America's newest metro system and the only one that's fully automated—which just opened a major extension today

Trains will now reach Pearl Harbor & Honolulu airport, boosting low ridership, though the system won't be extended to downtown until 2031

Terrible what’s happening in America. Now to turn on my favourite Melbourne radio station and see what the cops have to say about the centre-left government
the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?

It’s pretty disturbing how the right of Victorian politics, having spent the better part of a decade radicalising its base, gets to repeatedly turn around and pretend Nazis are not their problem. Disturbing because it’s not clear where this leads.

I genuinely feel sorry for the SRL staff who have to spend two hours a month answering absolutely insane questions from Heatherton QAnon with a straight face.

Meanwhile in Melbourne we have the entire establishment trying to radicalise outer suburban voters into January 6ing railway tunnels.
So many gazillions of awards spinning around now…but this photograph of all of these people who contributed to Sydney Metro (and imagine if we added all those who built it?) winning the NSW medallion last night quells my cynicism. Bravo brilliant people - what an enormous contribution to your city.

Either put more trams up Elizabeth St or start shooting tourists for catching trams from Melbourne Central to the market.

The politics of Scottsdale are as bad as the US regime. The conservative council wants to give up approved federal funding of a roundabout under construction. The new conservative members ran on, in part, anti-roundabout platforms. I guess roundabouts are woke. www.azcentral.com/story/opinio...
Scottsdale is willing to lose $31 million over a roundabout. That's insane | Opinion
If Scottsdale wants to ax future roundabouts, that's worth discussing. But why would we tear up a plan for one that's already under construction?

The NDIS is quite obviously eating the budget and to an extent the economy. It’s pretty worrying to see the right-wing rhetoric ramp up without any serious advocacy from anywhere else about major structural reforms that could make it sustainable while preserving rights and welfare of participants.

The Victoria line also an interesting data point given the left discourse about this being a uniquely carceral state government etc.
This chart 📊 jumped out, showing the explosion of incarceration in the Northern Territory where 1% of the population is now in jail, worse than the United States. It should be a global disgrace for Australia #auspol

Interesting to ponder that it would be fairly straightforward to sell everything inside the M80/M3 cordon to Transurban that they don't already own. WGB alone is probably worth enough to buy out Eastlink and pay off a fair chunk of NEL...
Always a good reminder that even the partial highway tolling regime Philly has is completely backwards: only some belt highways and bridges are tolled, while nearly all radial highways which directly contribute to CBD congestion are free!

interesting counterpoint to the YIMBY/planning class unity ticket that "pocket parks" etc are sufficient to meet the recreation needs of a heavily densifying urban core
Does it seem like everybody is angry at cabanas or jet-skis on our beaches this summer? Fresh data shows Victoria's beaches are busier than ever, and behaviour experts says we are facing a "tragedy of the commons" scenario. www.theage.com.au/national/vic...

From cabanas to jet-skis, off-leash dogs and loud music, it seems everybody has an opinion on beach behaviour. With soaring beach visitor numbers, experts say we are facing a known phenomenon: the “tr...

Of course there is actually a way to achieve this and it’s delivering urban services via Victorian State Socialism.
Just an FYI when talking about city/town budgets:
