WITCHING HOUR by Ladytron was released 20 years ago today. It was the highlight of the year for me, and helped me yearn for beauty at a time my life had very little of it.

SIGGRAPH’s response to concerns about safety in Kuala Lumpur is “thank you for your letter”. Disappointing.
I wasn’t planning on attending because the birthplace on my passport precludes me from being safe in Malaysia - but I guess this is now everybody’s problem.

The more I know about musical instrument construction, the more I appreciate how modern electric guitars are sort of a local optimum. Few changes after the 1931-1955 designs made any difference. Same can be said about the fortepiano, but its' evolution took hundreds of years, not 24.

Saw Oasis in Manchester. The entire city (and country) was consumed with it. 15% of the audience (80k/night) wore bucket hats. Musically, it was amazing. Otherwise it felt like late FleetwoodMac. Liam and Noel did not exchange a single word. Liam spoke to the audience, Noel just wanted to go home
