Intro post!

I'm David, 41, and I work as the resident Database Editor at TheGamer. Lots of behind the scenes shenanigans.

Having spent a decade as an ESL teacher in Poland, I've now been in games for eight years across social media, community, marketing, and editorial.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties Preview

- Kiryu has a Daddy Rank.
- Mine singing Baka Mitai is everything I didn't know I needed.

No other notes.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties Preview - Love Change Or Hate It, The Kiwami Series Has Always Been About Evolution
Yakuza Kiwami 3 isn't just a remake, it's a reimagining. Combined with Dark Ties' focus on fan favourite Mine and a 'bad guy' perspective, I'm sold.

Why does my insomnia always seem to kick in on a Thursday instead of a Friday? 🫣

My Nintendo Year in Review just tells me that I really need to finish games instead of buying more.

It also tells me that I think the Switch 2 is going to become my main system from here on out. Just more convenient to use, and I've barely touched my PS5 since I got the S2.

Why on earth did I decide to start optimising fan curves and all that tech nonsense on my laptop at 11pm? ><

NGL, tempted to get one of these and fully disconnect from any app that lends itself to doomscrolling.

I'll always point to No Man's Sky's litany of modular options as the beacon studios should look to.

Been following this ever since I bumped into some of the devs at the coffee box on the seafront outside my flat. Looks exactly my kind of jam. 😍

Never have I seen such brazen, one-sided officiating. Truly disgusting.

Earliest memories - Pac-Man and Space Invaders on the Atari 2600.

Best childhood memories of going to the caravan every weekend with my grandad and kicking about the arcade while he watched the cabaret - Street Fighter II, Tecmo World Cup, The NewZealand Story, NBA Jam TE, Neo Turf Masters.
What is the video game that oozes childhood memories for you? Club Penguin, Neopets, Habbo Hotel, Angry Birds, Runescape, Friv, World of Warcraft, Skylanders.

Something else?

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch - then and now.
Quote this with what you would have said your game of the year was at the end of 2013, if you had one, and what you would say your favourite game of 2013 is now, if it differs

Localisations and early access count, remasters don't. Remakes depend

A different kind of list to the usual RPG-heavy diet I consume, these games have helped me get through a rather difficult year.

Didn't manage to nap, covid brain in full swing, somehow got to stay awake long enough to make database entries for every single game shown. I am very much looking forward to passing out for two whole days after this.

Good luck to everyone covering The Game Trailers 2025!

My top three in order would have been Firewatch, No Man's Sky, World of Final Fantasy.

Now I'd swap No Man's Sky for Firewatch, but same top three.
