Pub bore in usual spot for pints and a whine Tom Peck Political Sketch Extract: Farage had come to announce a plan to "save Britain's pubs" but within minutes he was mainly talking about the thing that, in fairness, every other pub in Britain is talking about, which is Peter Mandelson's emails, a subject we'll come to shortly. He was introduced by Lee Anderson. If you think of Reform's eight MPs as a pub table, it's easy to forget that it was Anderson who arrived first, and bagsied it for several months before anone else showed up. Anderson too gave a folksy talk about the history of pubs, their place in the community, and their sad demise. It was misty-eyed stuff. Still, Reform have a plan to turn all that around. Anderson announced £3 billion worth of tax cuts for pubs, which would, be paid for by lifting the child benefit cap for British families. Yes, that's right, this was spending that would be paid for by more spending. That's the other great thing about pubs. It's the place you can go to talk complete nonsense and get away with it. Mercifully, the actual documents were a bit clearer. Reform will in fact save the pub by bringing back the two-child benefit cap, but not for hardworking Brits. only the freeloading foreigners, like the ones you see working gruelling shifts behind the bar, or in the kitchen, at almost every single pub. There were the allegations of leaking sensitive government information to a foreign national, the possible insider trading. He wondered aloud over whether the Official Secrets Act had been broken, which is kind of a big deal. While he was speaking, Mandelson's world was further disintegrating. It remains an intriguing spectacle, watching rich and powerful Brits have their comeuppance over their friendships with Jeffrey Epstein. Over in the States. some corners of the Maga movement have turned on their hero for the exact same reason. At least for the time being, Farage is not quite there. Maybe tougher days lie ahead.
