Turns out (says @jburnmurdoch.ft.com) it's not so much an oversupply of graduates in the UK (the same would be true of other similar countries but it's not) as an undersupply of the kind of jobs that a better-performing, more productive economy would supply.
‘Is university still worth it?’ is the wrong question
The graduate earnings premium isn’t really measuring what most people think

So Starmer has chosen today - the first time a royal has been arrested in centuries - to do 2 things that would otherwise be front page news (appoint Antonia Romeo who has been accused of bullying and now halting the return of Chagos because something something Trump).

And it's not even lunchtime.

The entire Chagos Islands deal is being done to help the US keep its dammed military base. How much political capital is Keir Starmer willing to spend trying to save Donald Trump from himself? Especially when Trump cannot remember his stance on this from one day to the next?

This is important to call out obviously, but I'm not sure it matters to people who ardently vote Reform. They actually like the faux-meritocratic vibes it gives off because they can excuse poshness if it gives an intellectual credence to their racism.

Not only is the Winter Olympics basically sport for posh people, it's also really dull. Just endless time trials and judges scores. No actual races (other than speed skating which is over in seconds). The only watchable thing is the curling and that's only really because it's like a board game.

Imagine if you pitched the idea of the British Library now.

"Yes, we'd like to occupy prime real estate land for a building which is completely free for the general public, so they can get whatever information they want".

They'd laugh you out of the room.

This sort of framing of stories about 'left behind' places is getting very tired. How have they been 'failed' by politics? They are the product of political choices - which organisations like the BBC have often failed to explain to people.
Inside Horden, the County Durham town failed by politics
In Horden, County Durham, Westminster slogans have long been left unmet as the population has plummeted.

If anyone's response the abuse Vinicius Jnr's got is, 'he shouldn't have been antagonising the crowd', then you're a major part of the problem. No actions 'deserve' racist abuse. None.

Home time is great because gliding through suburbia by train, I can stare out of the window as the parallax of social and private worlds, public infrastructures, green margins and grey geometries slips and shimmers past, as it becomes a quietly arresting meditation on the urban worlds we’ve made.

I'm halfway through season 1 of Paradise, after everyone raved about, but seriously, it's just another example of such sloppy writing it's doing my head in. Twists you can see a mile off, clunky conversational stuff that would never happen irl.
