A big reason proc gen feels so different to AI in spite of superficial similarities is exactly this!!
Proc Gen systems reflect the interests and creative preferences of the tool makers, whereas AI is catch-all sludge that reflects no specific point of view. It’s not remotely the same!

In case anyone ever asks, I *have* written a material generator and a music generator for Eldritch 2, but that's not AI. That's me taking all the things I personally know about those things, and writing my own tools to make the process a little faster and easier for myself. It's still 100% me, baby.

When someone has standards, you know you can trust whatever they put out in the world.
I've got disappointing news about the Kenney plushie. This was such a hard decision to make, and I'm truly sorry for everyone that was looking forward to it. This was something I dreamed of doing, but I can't ship something that I'm not happy with myself.

people keep asking about modability and (aside from gui reskinning) i now have an answer
block game uses an entity component system so i've made a json file for entity templates to easily create entities. so if nothing else you'll be able to mod the game by editing this

I will say that nothing is more baffling to me than the industry standard that we teach developers about publishing by having them listen to talks and panels by publishers. It's like fiscal responsibility taught by a loan shark, privacy taught by Google, or human rights taught by Israel.

I also feel like gen AI is an existential threat to the scientific mindset, because it trades truth for convenience. You cannot find truth by just remixing words; you have to actually test ideas in the real world and remember the results. Generative models do neither of those things.

Wanted to express my feelings towards socials, lately, with a 6 panels comic but I can't draw to save my life. So I thought "what the hell" and used my Actual Incompetence and drew it anyway with stick figures, using pencil, pen, paper and some pastels from my kid's stash. It's awful and I love it.

I totally get the tug of war between "must do best practices and sensible biz dev stuff" and "just want to make this thing my way". I have that struggle all the time.
Ultimately I think the reality may lie somewhere in between.
Also tbh, I feel differently about these things on different days.
