I love this article on the set design of Sesame Street and how it was influenced by Jane Jacobs’ ideas about vibrant urban spaces like the “sidewalk ballet” and “eyes on the street”. [kottke.org]
The Set Design of Sesame Street (Feat. Jane Jacobs)
An article about The Quintessential Urban Design of ‘Sesame Street’ with a bunch of photos? This is extremely up my alley. One of the show’s big influences when it began was Jane Jacobs’ landmark book, The Death and Li

Mind-blowing fact: Sesame Street's set design was a deliberate rejection of car-centric suburbia, inspired by urbanist Jane Jacobs. The stoops, the street life, the "eyes on the street"—it was all designed to foster a vibra... https://kottke.org/25/07/the-set-design-of-sesame-street-feat-jane-jacobs

Other stuff I’ve seen also gets into this idea of collective safety (Jane Jacobs’ “The Death and Life of Great American Cities” & its “eyes on the street” concept comes to mind.) The whole idea of it gives a pretty substantial argument for crime prevention outside of formal power roles of the state.

I’m so old I remember Jane Jacobs saying one of the best ways to combat crime was eyes on the street. Pretty sure people sitting outside a little corner coffee shop sipping and talking qualifies as eyes on the street.

Jane Jacobs' idea of safety through "eyes on the street" has never been more true.

Social science is validating Jane Jacobs' "eyes on the street" insights on crime prevention. Simple urban design solutions like better lighting and fixing up abandoned lots can lead to dramatically fewer murders. youtu.be/F-9RCKKvoJw?...

The Jane Jacobs that I like is when she looks at what is working in a city with her own eyes and describes how and why it is working. Instead of using appeals to authority or theory.

As we've known for a long time, the current car-first/car-only approach to UK urban planning is hostile to everyone except men. All of these things talked about would make towns and cities better for everyone; especially embedding the need for "eyes on the street", as espoused by Jane Jacobs.
