i understand walter benjamin’s reaction to angelus novus much more deeply now. for whatever misgivings i have for some of his work there is something of “the angel would like to stay, awaken the dead…” in ai wei weis use of artifacts
the table is contorted as if in pain, bracing itself against the wall so as not to collapse. it’s distorted form makes it wrong in its original context, it’s wrongness makes us notice it and recall the sort of place it would inhabit, the place is the past. the past cannot return.

even if the word is completely nonsexual and not related to illicit drugs or anything like that, autocorrect will very frequently ignore a completely obvious correction of an anatomical word, a scientific word, etc. meanwhile the things fucking autocapitalize and correct brand and product names.

Between 1967 and 1973 the United States partnered with the U.K. to completely wipe out a population on the Chagos islands and murdered all of their dogs by lighting them on fire. When they got to the U.K. with promised housing, most were unable to even get housing.
