The sun burns the sky bright pink to orange behind the spire of the church across the valley as it rises to oversee the unusual frozen snowy landscape; treacherous underfoot, but in the glow of dawn the beauty of the landscape and the song of the Robin lifts my spirits #FirstBirdOfMyDay #Birds

En route to the First Symposium of Alpine Lichenology. Very excited for this! I'll be discussing work from our Scottish hills and looking forward to putting it in the context of mountain environments on a wider scale.

It’s Swift Awareness Week. Sadly, the iconic Swift (Apus apus) declined by 68% across the UK between 1995 and 2003. Find out some of the possible reasons for this decline here: www.bto.org/learn/about-... @btobirds.bsky.social @jncc.bsky.social @rspbscience.bsky.social #Ornithology #CitizenScience

This is the side of the hunting community that rewilding needs to build bridges with: the side with an *ecological consciousness*.
