Trapped in the Trifold door blind this morning; Humming Bird Hawk Moth, (Macroglossum stellatarum) a first for me and it has to have passed over the rainbow bridge or whatever moths do. 😩

There are these two too! And taking shelter under the far trees a dappled mum and her foul! Lovely. Two fouls came to say hello to Rex through the fence; don’t think he knew what to make of them, but joined in the kisses, mums watch with a stern eye. 👍🐕

Probably more chance in Surrey than here in Notts, but some local fellow naturalists have reported seeing them. Saw a novel adaptation for Swift boxes in N Ireland @hannahbournetaylor.bsky.social

Happy Summer Solstice all #firstbirders Eric and Erica came to see me, but not #firstbirdofmyday, which was a Blackbird swinging on the fatball feeder. A lovely walk followed, a Yellow Spell (x2) in the Field Maple 🍁 plus two, few days old foals in the field - magic.

Interesting conundrum (or not 🧐) two lone English Oaks (150/200yrs) in a field; in the canopy of one, a good number of Oak Apple Galls on one but barely a one on t’other!
June 3, 2025 at 8:22 AM
@galling.bsky.social any suggestions? Found on hedgerow Bracken, country- lane, west Notts. Not sure it’s a gall, eggs? Reluctant to take apart.
