My dorky little self-reward for running a record-breaking plant sale fundraiser for our community garden is to just get a huge delivery order of bolani, kabuli palao and koobideh and pig out knowing I’ll have leftovers to keep pigging out on for days because I am an exhausted happy little piggy.

I took my 2 year old son to an MLB game today for some quality dad time and he absolutely had a blast. In fact, he was sad when the game ended because he wanted to stay at the ballpark. It was a good reminder that there’s still a lot of joy in life.

My guard finches are back! Every spring a pair of house finches build a nest in the rain gutter near my front door and raise their chicks. They fly out and surprise anyone who approaches my door, so they’ve been dubbed my “guard finches.” This morning they arrived for duty!

Piles of my garden grown collards, mustard, chard, pak Choi, beet, celery and turnip greens turned into silky southern style greens. So good. I add a chopped fennel bulb instead of just onion and garlic, and a big ol dollop of Calabrian pepper paste instead of dried cayenne for kick.

Out of all the Oscar-nominated movies I haven’t seen, Nickel Boys intrigues me the most. The theory of the cinematography, shooting from instead of to, is so visceral in the clips I’ve seen. Gonna watch it in a theater in Nevada City tomorrow.

40lb of rabbit poop arrived. Harvested 2 bok choy and a bunch of broccoli for dinner. Week’s worth of collards and turnips tomorrow. Added 24 peppers to the hydroponic starts for the community garden plant sale. Feeding myself and giving to the food bank so neighbors can have fresh vegetables too.

Roasted a huge pile of homegrown broccoli, carrots, radishes and turnips. Think I have enough harvestable veggies to eat dinner from my garden every night for the next couple weeks. That’s how I avoid grocery price inflation. 😁
