It's getting to be that year-end time of year (great turn of phrase, dave) and I hope people consider SPECTRUM and PLAGUE HOUSE on their BEST COMICS OF 2025 lists. Two uncompromising books that absolutely rip and deserve to be on your shelves or some other surface

This. Every word of this.
I get headpatted every couple of years for being able to 'find the positive in things' but the thing those folks never EVER get is criticism is inherently nuanced. Nothing works fully. Very little is broken fully. Everything is interesting and everything says something.

On this particular day I want to say that a critic's job is to criticize art, and an artist's job is to make something that resonates with specific people, which necessarily means it won't resonate with others. If every critic liked a piece of art, one or the other of us would not be doing our jobs.
