Here’s a disturbing video from Evanston of a federal agent hitting a man on the ground as people yell that he can’t breathe.

The thing that depresses me about Trumpism is that 2009-15, however imperfect, felt like positive incremental change. Reading this, all I can think about is how Steve King felt real repercussions for his racism in 2020. Schmitt won’t get stripped of committees for this. Because it’s mainstream now.
man. if Eric Schmitt's speech to NatCon isn't a sign of the times, i don't know what is

Cost estimate of the House-passed "Big Beautiful Bill" is out

It'd be the largest cut to Medicaid+CHIP and SNAP in history while still increasing deficits by $2.4 trillion due to $3.8 trillion in tax cuts

This'd be the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in history

I failed! You failed! We ALL failed. Now MARCH your butts to my workshop we are going to COLOR about it.

(And strategically plan and do serious hard thinking about it, but art supplies are also part of the whole process).

Adding a slide at the end of my talk that is the most tough-love I've ever put in a science communication talk. The ones who get it in the audience will get it. I don't know who at this point is still lying to themselves about the reality we're living through in US science. We'll see how it lands.

While we are all reeling from the budget and its major cuts to NASA, NIH, USGS, etc. I want to also draw attention to this little nugget about State Wildlife Grants, which is the mechanism for funding State Wildlife Action Plans. Eliminating SWG will destroy state natural resource agencies.

Our new paper was just published on the survival of feral pigs 🐖in the presence of cougars 🦁. Juvenile mortality was mostly due to predation & road kill, not so for adults.

This is part of Mitch's PhD work with CDFW, NWRC, & DoD. We should have more soon! 🧪

Researchers found an 86% reduction in wildlife crossings where walls were built and a 100% reduction crossings of large animals like mountain lions, deer & bears.
