I've passed the 60k mark in my Novel November WIP. Still a little behind but I'm thinking I can still hit the 75% (aka ~75k) mark by the end of the day on Sunday.

Then I'm never doing this again because the burn out is real. Was I motivated? Yes. Do I have any joy in anything right now? Nope.

Does anyone else have days where you think "I'm so grumpy. This bad mood is the worst." Then you drink a glass of water and it's like "nah, you were just dehydrated."

But tell me why I get a new bookmark every time I go to the book store but I still always reach for whatever random piece of paper/sticky note/receipt is closest instead?? 🤨🤨🤨

The response so far has been tremendous, and I’m so glad that all the work my team and I put into this book is hitting folks exactly as I dreamed it might. I’m incredibly proud of this book and the growth in it from book one. 🥹

The telltale signs you're writing a book:
"Wow, I got into such a good flow."
"God, I can't finish this damn scene."
"That's garbage... but I'll fix it later."
"That's the most beautiful sentence I've ever written."
"Am I done yet?"

Had some anxiety settle in after talking about I, Medusa yesterday. Wrote about it...

It's turns out I'm not someone who can just write anywhere. I am a creature of routine and I miss my office. That being said, we're going to try and make the most out of the next four days and see what makeshift daily routine we can create.

Just finished my ARC for I, Medusa by Aryana Gray. As a lover of Medusa lore, I always appreciate seeing new takes on it. I'm still processing my full thoughts but will plan to share more of a review soon.

I'm at a little over 16k words logged for the month. A week in, that puts me on track for my goal. Pretty excited with a strong start but now I'm in the messy middle and I fear it may slow down from here. Regardless, progress! We push on writers.

Made it 2500+ words into today’s writing sprint before I had to stop.

Why you might ask?

My MC has to outwit a hag.

I’m not even sure I could outwit a hag

(I also have to write the hag.)

Cue the imposter syndrome wave of “I’m not clever or chaotic enough to be writing fae perspectives.”

First Draft November check-in:
3,057 total for the day.
Just under 30k total for the WIP.

Already 15% of the way through my word count goal for the month. I don't know what this means for the expectation of how long I THINK this first book is going to be. 🤣

One of the major fruits of research is delight. Think of how often you’ve read about a discovery and really enjoyed it. Often the most pleasurable kind of news. Public delight isn’t discussed enough as one of the major outputs of funding research.
I strongly recommend everyone do research sometimes 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘶𝘯.

Look something up on Wikipedia. Go to the little citation. Follow it. Read the article it's referencing. Follow links to the original interview. Read the paper written by the interviewee

It genuinely makes you appreciate journalism

Attending a celebratory event for my local book store and it was a smashing success! 🥳

But it was so packed, you could barely walk around. This little introvert was immediately overwhelmed. I made it 20 minutes before I had to leave or risk crawling out of my skin. 💀

Happy November 1st everyone! I ended my morning sprint with 2461 words, letting me break the 23k mark on my WIP novel.

Feels good to start strong for this First Draft November.

Are you working on any writing projects this month? Tell me about it so I can cheer you on!
November 1, 2025 at 8:05 PM
I'm currently sitting at 20k. My goal WAS to get through my first draft but based on my current pace and outline, I'd settle for 80k and 3/4 done.

My writing group has a nightly sprint planned with extra long blocks planned on the weekend. I'm so excited. ✨🙌

Does anybody else keep a running listen of new and exciting descriptors that they hear in actual plays? I have a running note on my phone that's just called Brennen Lee Mulligan's vocabulary lessons.

It should go without saying that these mass internment camps will be much, much more expensive to operate than just giving the homeless free or subsidized housing would be.
Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.
