I research armed conflict & economic justice in the Horn of Africa. Fearlessly critical & post-liberal. My views only.

On June 24, I began my Election Night speech by quoting Mandela: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” That's the spirit of this campaign, and our city.

This is "Until It’s Done,” a new series about New Yorkers who refused to accept that a worthy goal was impossible.

Thinking more about how the West’s humanitarian aid, esp. “food security & livelihoods”, was set up in war-torn countries in large part to create conditions for capitalist expansion. Now many are experiencing the alienation, displacement, & culture death that comes w/ economic “formalization”

These are my @sgsah.bsky.social photo competition submissions, despite not being anything close to a photographer. Gorgeous ride from Cumbrae to Arran yesterday aboard the Waverly; after a huge dolphin pod sighting we arrived back at Millport to a pipe band 🥹

Though have to say, Picking up industrial remains (glass, concrete, piping..) across the way from a decommissioned nuclear plant feels…ominous? But correct for Scotland’s post-industrial/late capitalist crisis

The truth revealed below.

Yes, AI will have societal benefits. But left unchecked, the downside will drown the upside.

CEOs are going to lay off millions of workers and then use the savings to supersize the concentration of wealth and economic power.

Someone today referred to the fight over USAID as "do we help the right people or do we help the white people" and god damn that's still in my head

I love this phenomenon of registered Republicans doing research in search of truth, uncovering networks of political pay offs & accidentally ending up socialists. More of this! ❤️

My hopes!
Hosted @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social in Washington today!

The color coordination wasn’t planned. 😂🌹💫

The mainstream media narrative is neoliberal capitalism—not socialism, not conservatism, not classical liberalism. News media won’t expose system failure due to misled austerity AND it won’t overtly support racism—it’ll protect a “middle” open market+mass/margina. labor+private property at all costs

No but it’s actually crazy how this country 🇬🇧 has been led to believe immigrants, and not the wholesale severing of economic ties with its biggest trade partner(s) 🇪🇺, is the reason for the fiscal crisis

gahhhh

Go Kate!!!
The wonderful Delia from Fife Greens says: “I support Kate because she walks the walk—community service is at the heart of her career and personal life alike. She’ll make a thoughtful and caring MSP!”

So we may not have won the local by-election in the 'traditional' sense 😅 but we did incredibly well, and due to our phenomenal team, the bestest of candidates in Q, and for the party's future, it feels like a victory 🌱💚

THANK YOU to EVERYONE who has been involved

At #BISA2025, my first academic conference as a PhD student. Feeling inspired by just how many of the neocolonial, “rational” walls of the discipline have fallen in the last years & grateful for others’ work that now allows me to unabashedly study/criticize capitalist transformation in war settings
