My Best Posts of 2025
I've decided I'm going to do 2023 as well, which means these are going to be out of order but whatever.
My Best Posts of 2024 ('cause why not)
In general I feel like Season 2 of Severance completely loses sight of what the show’s about and has a terrible ending, but I’m glad Tramell Tillman got so much to do, what a standout performance.

I hope some imsim designer saw Mark using the blood-soaked tie to get the door open and got some crazy ideas.

But to get your money's worth you guard him through that and through other challenges he's created for himself by being an asshole and a loser purely because as a player you don't get much out of the game if it ends in the first scene.

The thing I come back to about Harry Dubois, the initial joke that hooks you, is that at the start of the game you can die trying to pull a sock off a fan because he's so vulnerable. He's such an asshole loser that could and should be the end of his story.

I want to be clear that "man character is an extremely complicated asshole man for reasons you should want to unpack, this is great art actually" is the plot to countless Oscar bait films, award winning stories. The depth and pathos of abusive miserable men is virtually axiomatic in patriarchy.

It's time for Music Monday, and probably Tuesday-Friday as well because today's randomly selected album from my backlog is...Living Statue Records—You Can Sing Me Anything: A Tribute to 69 Love Songs (2018)

A better headline: DHS is *temporarily* "shut down" due to a funding bill not having been passed *yet.* But "shut down" doesn't really mean anything in the short term because most of the agencies under DHS have separate funding sources and/or enough in the hold to keep them going.

Great article to read at 5 am in the dark.
This style of light doesn't really appear in animation anymore. You know it when you see it -- it's bright, hot and almost dangerous.

Our new issue explores the tricks behind it, and how one artist has revived the look for the digital age: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/dangerous-...

I think the main problem I'm going to have with trying to find a therapist is that I hate the way therapists write about themselves and their work.

God this show is barely a metaphor.

Sorry it’s probably just gonna be free-floating Severance posts for a while, at least in the mornings.

I thought she was a guitar player why is she playing bass. I mean obviously people play both but her being a guitar player is like her one defining trait outside of hating Lumen so.

Severance S01E03 in the scene at the gas station the EMT says “Whoa whoa whoa he’s down he’s down” before he is in fact down, and I don’t think it’s on purpose?

John Turturro on Severance keeps talking about Ambrose and I’m sure I’m the only person with this question but: is that a Monk reference?

Looking up when you can eat or drink after a filling and all the sources are like “every filling is unique and your dentist will tell you when it’s ok to eat or drink” and meanwhile my dentist said “alright you’re all set” and walked away.

Update: they just announced they’re closing.
Seems like a lot of clinics are just bleeding staff/providers and can’t keep up. The place I used to go to had 9 providers when I started there in 2024, now they have 2. Both doctors I saw there have left. At the time I got an appt within a few weeks, god knows how long it would take now.

I don’t remember Putt-Putt looking like he just did coke for the first and, if all goes well, last time.

I wish iTunes (or rather, Apple’s Music app, which isn’t Apple Music, love that branding decision) had a test mode so I could work on mixes without incrementing play counts.

I am neither a “This is not Star Trek!” purist nor a “This is Star Trek!” fanatic, so I’m pretty sure everyone is going to hate my takes on this episode.
