So in order to enforce the Online Safety Act the government is proposing to make everyone's online data security processes less safe. Makes sense.
The British government admits it is now monitoring VPNs use by UK residents. Regulator Ofcom has contracted with an AI-powered surveillance service to detect the number of citizens using VPNs to evade the Online Safety Act.

The UK tech minister has said a VPN ban is on the table.

we got a taste of it when ofcom decided to sue 4chan
Starmer's government and Ofcom flat out just wants to strip us all of internet access, I guaran-fucking-tee it.
Twitch is officially releasing age verification in the UK.

Users will need to verify their age using an in-app facial scan; otherwise, they will lose access to watching mature content based on Content Classification Labels (CCLs).

"The OSA is likely driving adults into a more fragmented, less regulated ecosystem, largely because people are uneasy about handing over ID. We’re probably not going to see less engagement with porn, we’ll see different routes to it — many of them far outside the spaces the law was written for.”

Just got an email saying parliament will debate the online safety act, but I’m not confident that any of those clowns know what the internet actually is.

Important
As age verification laws proliferate around the world, people have predictably turned to VPNs to protect their privacy. Instead of taking this as a sign that surveillance isn't popular, lawmakers have decided they might as well ban VPNs altogether. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...
Lawmakers Want to Ban VPNs—And They Have No Idea What They're Doing
Remember when you thought age verification laws couldn't get any worse? Well, lawmakers in Wisconsin, Michigan, and beyond are about to blow you away. It's unfortunately no longer enough to force

Ever wonder how our cities and lawmakers could actually address concerns for kids online safety without censoring vital lifelines for queer and trans youth?

Maybe you're tired of seeing posts about this.

I'm tired of quoting and reposting it too.

But I'm even MORE tired of the constant attempts to turn the EU into a fucking surveillance state so, please help make that not happen.

Who wants to drink every time "child saftey" is brought up.

I do not believe they will budge on this, but make token amendments and listen to recommendations.

They are already making anti sex worker laws and using OSA as a base ,so unless OSA becomes politically toxic they will fight to keep it.

My fellow Europeans, I'm once again asking you to write or call your EU representatives and tell them this is unacceptable. They're essentially selling our sensitive data to companies, effectively destroying our privacy and risking our digital well-being.

imagine a law being so hated you have to "smuggle" it in because it would not pass a democratic process

Illegal by multiple consitutions
Declared illegal by the european court of justice
Implementations deemed far too complex or even impossible
